SPEAK. SPEAK promotes powerful voices by encouraging debate, public speaking, education, and advocacy! Check out our programs to learn more. We work with all ages.

SPEAK is a small non-for-profit dedicated to promoting debate, public speaking, and advocacy. SPEAK offers educational programs, which use debate as a tool for improving participants' professional and public speaking skills. Through our program, participants learn how to use non-verbal skills, conduct thorough research, structure an argument, and present their work in front of an audience. The SPE

AK program can be provided as an eight-week course or a day long seminar. Individual hour-long public speaking or research sessions are also available.

SPEAK Welcomes Maggie Pierce!

During the past year, SPEAK was fortunate to partner with the fantastic Justin Morgan-Parmett to help rebuild SPEAK’s volunteer debate program at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility (CRCF). Justin’s leadership and experience have helped reinvigorate SPEAK’s CRCF program following a pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. SPEAK is grateful to Justin for his support and helpful insights!

This year, SPEAK is excited to welcome Maggie Pierce to continue to build and strengthen SPEAK’s CRCF program! Maggie Pierce (she/her) is a recent UVM graduate with degrees in social work and history. In college, Maggie found and fostered her love for advocacy on the Lawrence Debate Union, where she first heard about SPEAK. She is thrilled to transition from a student volunteer to an instructive role with SPEAK. Maggie believes that the skills learned in debate can be life-changing, and she is incredibly excited to bring those into new environments with the SPEAK team this year. Welcome, Maggie!
