From Past Auxiliary President of Rutland County Post 648 - Veterans of Foreign Wars - John Dyer

I have been out of town up at the Derby Line as a traveling nurse and away from my home Post for the last couple months. The other evening as I stepped out to let my landlord’s dogs out I was taken back by this breathtaking sight. The red, white and blue in the sky and the flag waving in front of me.

First I thought of my family and friends, missing my hometown, the beauty of our land and remembering why I am able to see such a beautiful sight!

With Memorial Day approaching….please remember why we have our freedoms and our peace. Please remember the sacrifices of those and the families that made it possible for us to enjoy what we have.

While you’re enjoying your three or four day weekend please remember that someone, somewhere served to make this possible.

I’m not saying you can’t have a Happy Memorial weekend but remember it’s not “Happy” Memorial Day. It’s Memorial Day. We are Horning and Remembering those who sacrificed, including families that gave us what we have today.

Not everyone is having a “Happy” Day. Especially those who are remembering the memories of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

To everyone out there - Enjoy your weekend - remember why - be safe and thank you to all for your service, your sacrifices and for our freedom.
