What a great way to start the month!

September is National Library Card sign-up month! Residents of Rutland City, Rutland Town, Mendon, Tinmouth, & Ira, plus teachers & students in any of our towns are eligible for free library membership. Sign up this month and get free shwag!

Dolly Parton was also known as the "Book Lady". Anyone who has an organization that has given away close to 333,000,000 million books worldwide definitely deserves that title.

With fall approaching and school starting, it is more important than ever to get a jumpstart on your child's reading. In our little corner of the world (Rutland City, Rutland Town, Mendon, Ira, and Tinmouth), all children under five years of age are eligible for this FREE Program. Every month your child (birth-till their 5th birthday) can receive a brand new age appropriate book delivered to mailbox. All you have to do is register at https://www.rutlandfree.org/about-us/dpil/ to make it happen. If you don't live in those towns, visit www.imaginationlibrary.com to see if there is a Dolly Parton Imagination Library Chapter in your community. You can also stop by the Rutland Free Library and pick up an application.

We lost our beloved Dolly today! She leaves behind an incredible legacy through her amazing program; The Dolly Parton Imagination Library. We will miss her terribly, but as Dolly might say: "The show must go on."

Global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old.

Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000).

A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.

At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging or by leaving a message at www.dollyparton.com

Theresa Czachor, one of our fabulous DPIL committee members, covered the recent open house at Rutland Town School. She came prepared with registration forms and cool DPIL swag. During the meet and greet with parents and students, Theresa took a photo of Max and Margaret White, who participate in our Imagination Library Program through the Rutland Free Library.

Like so many others we said goodbye to the last Friday Night Live of the season. It was jamming with lots of families and our table was very busy. The parents we spoke with are huge fans of the Imagination Library program and highly recommend it to other families with children under five. Dolly also enjoyed doing photo ops with the kiddos plus moms and dads. Visit imaginationlibrary.org to find an Imagination Library in your community.
