We were glad to welcome Senator Peter Welch to Rutland County Head Start & Early Head Start yesterday!

During his visit, Senator Welch toured our classrooms and spoke with our staff about their experiences, the challenges they face, and the important role Head Start plays in supporting children and families in our community.

Thank you to Senator Welch for taking the time to visit our program and hear directly from the people who do this important work every day.

🌡️ Did you know your food thermometer needs to be calibrated?

Here's a food safety tip you might not have heard before! 👀

Even food thermometers need a little attention to make sure they're giving accurate readings. Our latest shared Mealtime Memo resource covers how to properly use, clean, and calibrate food thermometers, including how to check their accuracy using ice water or boiling water.

🍗 Why does it matter? Food can look fully cooked on the outside while still being unsafe inside. Using a food thermometer helps you check that your food has reached a safe internal temperature.

📌 It's a small step that can make a big difference when it comes to keeping your family safe!

📣 REMINDER FOR FAMILIES!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 7, is an early dismissal day!

⏰ Children will be dismissed at 12:00 PM.

This year, we’re introducing monthly early dismissal days on the first Wednesday of each month. These afternoons provide our staff with additional time for professional development, planning, and preparation to support our classrooms and families.

Please make sure your child has a plan for getting home at noon tomorrow. Thank you for helping us make this new schedule work!

🎒✨ We made it through the first week back! ✨🎒

What a week it has been at Rutland County Head Start & Early Head Start! Our classrooms are back in action, our little learners are settling into their new routines, and it has been so wonderful having our children and families back with us. 💛

A huge thank you to all of our families for spending another school year with us. We are so excited for all of the learning, growing, exploring, and playing that this year will bring!

And we have to give a little shoutout to our friends at Come Alive Outside for dropping off Fall Passports for our kiddos! 🍂🍁 Each child received one to take home, giving families a fun way to explore local events and activities together this fall. Complete the activities inside and you can even earn a FREE Rutland Halloween Parade themed tote bag!

What a Year! 💚

As we wrap up another wonderful year at Rutland County Head Start & Early Head Start, we want to take a moment to say thank you!

Our Summer Program wrapped up last Friday, August 14, and Early Head Start finished yesterday, August 19. Today marks the beginning of our pre-service and training days as our team gets ready for another exciting school year!

To our children and families — thank you for sharing your year with us. We are so grateful for the growth, laughter, learning, curiosity, and countless little moments that made this year so special. 💚

And to our amazing staff — thank you for the creativity, patience, dedication, and heart you bring to our program every single day. We couldn't do what we do without you!

Now, we're looking ahead to a brand-new year! ✨ Our 2026–2027 school year officially begins September 8, and we can't wait to welcome everyone back.

Here's to a wonderful year behind us and an even more exciting one ahead! 🌱

Rutland County Head Start (RCHS), a program within the Rutland Community Programs division of Community Care Network, today announced that it has named Lauren Weiss, Ph.D., as its new Director.

“I am excited for the opportunity to help guide RCHS and ensure that the program continues to serve as a vital resource for our community, as it has for over three decades,” said Weiss. “RCHS plays an essential role in supporting children and families during the earliest and most important years of development. The program is much more than early education – it is a comprehensive system of care that connects learning, health, family partnership and community resources so that children can grow in safe, nurturing environments and families feel supported along the way.”
