🍓🥦 Keep It Fresh This Summer! 🥕🍎

Fresh fruits and vegetables are a delicious way to fuel growing bodies, but did you know that storing them properly can help them stay fresh longer and reduce food waste?

A few easy tips:
âś… Wash produce just before using it, not before storing it.
âś… Keep bananas and tomatoes on the counter.
âś… Store potatoes, onions, and garlic in a cool, dark place.
âś… Refrigerate cut fruits and vegetables in covered containers.
✅ Keep some fruits and vegetables separate—certain fruits release natural gases that can cause vegetables to spoil faster.

Small changes in how we store fresh foods can help save money, reduce waste, and keep healthy snacks ready for the whole family. 🍇🍉🥒

What's your family's favorite fresh fruit or vegetable this time of year? Let us know in the comments! 👇

We may be a little late to the party, but we still wanted to take a moment to celebrate an incredible milestone — 61 years of Head Start! 🎉

Sixty-one years ago, Head Start began as a modest 8-week summer program with one big question: Could reaching children early make a difference?

The answer, over and over again, has been yes.

What started as a small idea has grown into one of the longest-running early childhood programs in American history, supporting children and families in cities, rural communities, tribal nations, and migrant farmworker camps across the country. More than 40 million children and families served — and counting.

We’re proud to be part of that legacy here in Rutland County and deeply grateful for the teachers, family advocates, family partners, health staff, support staff, and families who make this work meaningful every single day. ❤️

Rutland County Head Start & Early Head Start were proud to join our community partners this weekend at the 3rd Annual Running for Prevention 5K, hosted by Rutland County Parent Child Center.

We had a great time connecting with families, cheering on participants, and sharing more about our program with community members. It was a meaningful day centered around supporting children, strengthening families, and coming together for an important cause.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and events like this are a powerful reminder of what we can do when we work together as a community to support safe, healthy environments for all children.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello—we loved seeing so many familiar and new faces!
