A 25-year-old Cavendish man, Brenton M. Beers, has been cited by Vermont State Police for allegedly spray-painting pro-Palestine and anti-Israel messages on the windows of DG Bodyworks, a Cavendish business owned by a vocal supporter of Israel. Police say the graffiti was discovered May 20 and that Beers later turned himself in after publicity surrounding the case. He faces one count of unlawful mischief and is scheduled for arraignment June 16, while authorities are also reviewing the incident as a possible hate crime under Vermont’s Bias Incident Reporting System.

Corey Cornutt and Savannah Grillot said they were tired of theft near their home.

According to police, instead of only calling authorities or adding security, the couple created their own trap. They allegedly left an unlocked bicycle in their front yard and waited for people to try taking it.

When someone went for the bike, police said the couple came out with aluminum baseball bats, attacked them, and recorded what happened. Investigators said this happened multiple times over a period of months, from July to November.

The videos were reportedly posted online, which helped turn the case from a neighborhood theft issue into a criminal investigation against the couple themselves.

At least one person had to receive medical treatment after the incidents, according to reports. Cornutt and Grillot were later arrested in January 2020.

The case went viral because it flipped the usual story. Instead of a simple bike theft case, police said the homeowners had spent months setting up people, filming the confrontations, and turning their front yard into a trap.

🚨 Public Safety Alert 🚨

The Rutland City Police Department is issuing a public safety alert following a recent increase in overdose incidents within our community.

Over the past six days, officers and emergency responders have responded to six suspected overdose incidents, five of which have occurred within the last 48 hours. This sharp increase is concerning and may indicate that particularly dangerous substances are circulating in our area.

While the Rutland City Police Department does not condone illegal drug use, our number one priority is the preservation of life. We encourage anyone struggling with substance use, or anyone who knows someone at risk, to seek help and support before tragedy occurs.

Many overdoses involve substances that may be mixed with Fentanyl or other dangerous compounds. Individuals may be unaware of what they are consuming, and even a small amount can be fatal.
