Reminder: Kiwanis Auction Donations

We are quickly approaching the 54th annual Kiwanis charity auction, which will be held on Saturday, April 25th. It’s success is vital to our mission of supporting children within Rutherford County.

We are still accepting item donations and ask that you reach out to your networks for any items that might be suitable for our auction. Donating is a great way to clear out unused items while helping Kiwanis raise funds. All net proceeds will go to organizations that provide services and benefits for KIDS in our community!

For your convenience, we provide a pickup service for donated items. (within a reasonable distance from Rutherfordton). Please note that our team will review all contributions upon arrival to ensure they are suitable for the auction based on our previous experience. We would like to have everything by April 18th.

To assist you, I have included a list below of common items that sell well, as well as those we are unable to accept:

Items we would love to receive:

Lawn Mowers, Tractors, Automobiles, Coins, Costume Jewelry, Antique Signs/Advertising, Power Hand Tools, License Plates, Old Lunch Boxes, NASCAR Memorabilia, Pocket Knives, Vintage Toys, Model Car Sets, Air Compressors, Antique Hand Tools, Guns and Ammo, Yard/Garden Tools, mowers, Kitchen Counter Appliances, Antique/Special Pottery, Special Flatware, etc.

Rutherfordton Kiwanians at work!

Today was a wonderful day at Rutherfordton Elementary as we welcomed the Kiwanis of Rutherfordton to visit our 3rd Grade students!

Kiwanis members Jimmy Dancy and Paul Deck delivered a special gift — a personal dictionary for every third grader. This meaningful tradition helps strengthen literacy skills, build vocabulary, and encourage confidence in reading and writing.

Kiwanis is a service organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and strengthening our community. They support local schools, youth leadership programs, scholarships, community initiatives, and service projects that make a lasting difference in Rutherford County. Their commitment to investing in young people is truly inspiring.

We are incredibly thankful for their generosity and their heart for children. Partnerships like this help our Rockets soar! 🚀📘💙

In our meeting on November 6th, Eben Mann, Director of “Wild Roots Fine Arts” (WRFA), gave us a great presentation on the wide ranging programs provided by his organization. They are truly an under recognized gem in our community. Their Mission Statement is “WRFA is committed to nurturing those who are seeking step-by-step guidance in the arts by cultivating creativity through a foundational approach; in order that they may attain the knowledge and confidence required to prosper into an inspiring and enriched individual. The music training provided includes ages as early as three months, with no upper limit. Program and services examples include Early Childhood Music Classes, Youth Choral League, Folk Arts School, Orchestra League, and a wide variety of instrument and voice lessons. Our weekly meeting on Thursday, October 16th, featured Robert Williamson, from the House of Flags Museum in Columbus, NC. Mr. Williamson, an expert vexillologist (a person who studies flags, including their history, symbolism, and usage) shared an amazing amount of information with us about the history of American Flags and his interesting research activities. The House of Flags Museum is the only museum of its kind in America! And, admission is free, with donations appreciated. This museum should definitely be on your “have to visit” list, and should be a particularly great educational experience for the kids. You can check out their website at: www.HouseofFlags.org.

Thanks to Robert Williamson and the museum staff for their dedication to preserving and sharing this important history of our country.

Last Thursday our Kiwanis club gained some insight into equine rescues, thanks to Anita Williamson. Anita educated us about the contributions that Polk Equine Emergency Rescue (PEER) has made to help those in Western North and South Carolina. She shared very interesting stories of transport accidents that have occurred on the interstate. PEER relies on donations to support their mission and we appreciate all they do!

In our most recent meeting, Jerry Stensland, Executive Director of Rutherford Outdoor Coalition, presented an overview and update of ROC. It was inspiring to hear about all the progress made in repairing the many hurricane damaged trails in the county, particularly the efforts of the many volunteers that worked so hard. It was also impressive to learn about all the activities and projects manage by this small group of dedicated servants.

Below is a partial list of what they do.

“Work with many partners to improve the county’s recreational options.
Build and maintain area trails.
Provide a comprehensive listing of area trails, maps and an interactive trails map.
Organize the Rutherford Outdoor Coalition Race Series
Guided hikes on a variety of trails and conservation properties.
Partner with NC State Parks and the NC Wildlife Resources Commission planners on future developments.
The annual River Sweep clean-up of the Broad River and a river stewards program.
The annual Tour de Pumpkin in October. Scenic 100K and 50K bicycle tours.
AND Much More!”
