REASON’s mission is to eliminate the killing of healthy and unwanted cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens by providing low-cost spay/neuter surgical fee assistance to residents of Burke County, NC. Our Mission:
The primary objective of REASON (Reduce Euthanasia and Spay or Neuter) shall be to eliminate the killing of healthy and unwanted cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens. will accomplish this by provid

ing spay/neuter surgical fee assistance through partnerships with private practice veterinarians and low-cost clinics, collaborating with other animal welfare groups, and promoting education on the humane treatment of animals. serves residents of Burke County, NC who meet the most current federal poverty guidelines. A volunteer will call you back.
★Each qualified person will complete an application requesting assistance with spay/neuter services.
★Each application will be reviewed to ensure the animal's owner qualifies for assistance.
★The applicant must pay their portion of the surgery/vaccine fee when the application is completed.
★The applicant’s portion of the fee will be received by the person approving the application.
★Once a surgery appointment is made by REASON, Inc., the owner of the animal is responsible for transporting the animal to and from the veterinarian’s office. Donations Welcome:

▶️REASON is accepting phone applications for spay/neuter surgical fee assistance. Please call and leave a message Monday through Friday. A REASON volunteer will return your call to see if you qualify.

⏳Please note that we have limited appointment times each month which fill up quickly. When all surgeries are scheduled for the current month, no further calls will be accepted.

Please keep sharing and spreading the word! These low-cost spay/neuter surgeries are available for dogs and cats of qualified Burke County residents. 🐶🐱

Another reason to spay your cat...

Every year, countless cats lose their lives to a preventable condition called pyometra. Pyometra is a severe infection of the uterus that can happen in unspayed female cats, and once it sets in, it becomes a life-threatening emergency very quickly.
Many people say, “I’ll let her have one litter first,” but sadly, sometimes they never get that chance. Pyometra can develop suddenly, even in young cats, and without immediate surgery and treatment, it is often fatal.
Some signs can include:
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy
• Vomiting
• Fever
• Bloated abdomen
• Increased thirst
• Discharge from the v***a (though not always present)
By the time symptoms appear, these cats are often already critically ill. Emergency surgery for pyometra is also far more dangerous, traumatic, and expensive than a routine spay.
Spaying saves lives.
Not someday. Not after “just one litter.” Now.
Please don’t wait for a medical emergency to make the decision. There are already so many cats and kittens desperately needing homes, and the kindest thing we can do for our companions is protect them from preventable suffering. ❤️

Did you know … Kittens can get pregnant as early as 4 months old?

They can have kittens by 6 months (while they’re still kittens themselves) — and continue having litters every ~9 weeks. 😳

That means kittens born in the spring can have their own litters by fall.

This is how populations explode so quickly — and why early spay/neuter is critical.

Spaying, neutering, vaccinating, and ear tipping community cats helps stabilize colonies, reduces suffering, and prevents more kittens from being born outdoors.
