COURSE OVERVIEW

Law enforcement officers are invited to attend this specialized investigative training focused on fentanyl and opioid overdose death investigations.

This course will provide officers and investigators with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively respond to opioid overdose incidents and investigate overdose deaths when criminal activity may be involved.

Participants will receive instruction on crime-scene preservation, investigative lead development, witness and family interviews, evidence collection, digital evidence, suspect interviews, arrest considerations, and prosecution of drug distributors.

TRAINING TOPICS

* Recognizing indicators of fentanyl and opioid overdoses
* Determining circumstances contributing to an overdose death
* Preserving and securing overdose crime scenes
* Identifying and properly collecting critical evidence
* Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and officer safety
* Legal authority for searches and evidence collection
* Securing cell phones, computers, tablets, smartwatches, and other electronic evidence
* Interviewing witnesses, family members, and associates
* Identifying the source, dealer, or distributor of narcotics
* Interviewing suspected drug distributors
* Developing probable cause and determining appropriate arrest points
* Understanding applicable state criminal charges
* Building a comprehensive overdose death investigation
* Working with prosecutors to develop cases for successful prosecution

Women’s Equality Day is observed each year on August 26 in the United States.

The day commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution on August 26, 1920, which prohibited denying the right to vote on the basis of s*x, effectively granting many women the right to vote. (It’s worth noting that many women of color, particularly Black, Native American, and some Asian American women, continued to face legal and discriminatory barriers to voting for decades afterward.)

Women’s Equality Day was established in 1973, when Congress designated August 26 as an annual observance following efforts led by Bella Abzug.

The day is often marked by:

* Celebrating the achievements of women.
* Reflecting on progress toward gender equality.
* Raising awareness of ongoing challenges in areas such as pay equity, leadership representation, education, and healthcare.
* Hosting educational events, discussions, and community activities.

💙✊🏾 OUR YOUTH. OUR VOICE. OUR COMMUNITY. ✊🏾💙

Today, our NAACP Lincoln Parish Branch Youth Council teens stepped up and stood together with the community for a powerful Community March Against Neighborhood Violence in Ruston!

🚶🏾‍♀️🚶🏾‍♂️ Beginning at Mayfield Park and ending at Duncan Park, our young leaders joined Unity and PRBC Brotherhood in taking a stand for safer neighborhoods, stronger communities, and a brighter future for all.

Our teens had the opportunity to hear from dynamic guest speakers, engage with community members, fellowship, and enjoy food and refreshments—all while learning that their voices, their presence, and their leadership matter.

We are proud of our Youth Council for showing that young people aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow—they are leaders TODAY! 🙌🏾

💙 When our youth stand up, speak out, and get involved, CHANGE happens!

Today, our NAACP Lincoln Parish Branch Youth Council members had the wonderful opportunity to visit The Health Hub- The Health Hut in Ruston, Louisiana!
Our youth met with the on-site dietitian, toured the facility, and learned about the amazing health and wellness resources available to community members FREE of cost! 🙌🏾

The Health Hut is truly a Jewel in our community, providing valuable resources and empowering individuals and families to make healthier choices. We are so grateful for the opportunity to expose our youth to organizations that are making a difference right here at home! 💙
