Trailblazer RC&D, officially authorized in 1966 and incorporated in 1988, serves the following parishes in North Central Louisiana:
Bienville, Bossier, Claiborne, Jackson,
Lincoln, Union, Webster, Winn and we are expanding to other parishes in North Louisiana to accommodate project goals and activities. Trailblazer RC&D is a locally sponsored and directed organization that provides assistance to
parishes in North Louisiana. It is a non-profit organization and is tax exempt (501c3) according to the Internal Revenue Service. Donations, loans, grants, special events and other fund raising activities are essential to the future of the organization. Trailblazer is governed by volunteers who establish priorities. Local leadership and innovative thinking are highly encouraged. Projects are carefully selected with emphasis on those that are good for the communities and projects that are not being addressed by other groups. Trailblazer leaders have established the following major areas of interest:
• Forestry
• Community Development
• Economic Development
• Environmental
• Human Resources
• Marketing and Networking
• Natural Resources
• Technologies
• Eco-Tourism
CURRENT Trailblazer Projects include but are not limited to the:
1) Water Quality Program: This program seeks to restore and improve local watersheds and educate the public (children & adults) through informative (and FREE!) presentations on how to protect our waters from non-point sources of pollution.
2) Entrepreneurial Training Program: This program seeks to assist new entrepreneurs in their business creation and management endeavors. Workshops are regularly scheduled throughout North Louisiana for free.
3) War On Giant Salvinia: Giant Salvinia is an invasive aquatic plant native to Brazil that has the capacity to "over-take" lakes and damage the ecosystem. Trailblazer has worked with local police juries in Bienville, Bossier, and Webster parishes to create the Bistineau Task Force in response to the devastating effects of Giant Salvinia on Lake Bistineau. However, Giant Salvinia (GS) is not just a problem on that lake but many others and is spreading - we are working to combat GS on a regional scale as well.
