Announcement of a fun event, open to the public, scheduled during the AKA National Convention in Muncie, IN, 13-17 October:
The What You Can Do with a Rokkaku event is intended to offer you lots of fun while also growing AKA’s membership by getting the outside community interested in kiting. This year, through the cooperation of the AMA, the local community will be allowed to come and experience kite flying with a group of people who can share their knowledge. We’ll set up a flying field dedicated to teaching details about Rokkakus and how to fly them.
We want to make this opportunity available Tuesday through Friday, whenever we have AKA members available to help. Rokkakus will be available to teach and practice with. The Rokkaku is one of the best larger kites to use to learn how to handle in the wind. It is a great format for your own artwork and a great kite to learn how to adjust to varying wind conditions. It is a famous, fantastic battle kite ….. but wait! There’s more. Have you ever flown a Rok Puzzle, where the object is to fly kites so close to each other that you can see a larger image? The object is to fly as closely as possible to your other team members WITHOUT tangling lines and cutting anyone out of the sky. It’s damn difficult and just a ton of fun. You’ve probably never laughed so hard with a kite in your hands. The Maryland Kite Society is bringing their Rokkaku 7-Kite Puzzle to the convention to let everyone experience this different kind of challenge. (see photo)
