EquiVenture Therapeutic Riding

EquiVenture Therapeutic Riding NFP SPCIAL NEEDS CHILDREN'S THERAPY EquiVenture focuses on improving each of our riders' potential through their equine experience.

We help them meet the physical, mental, behavioral and social challenges of their special needs. "There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man." - Winston Churchill. EquiVenture provides the opportunity for special youth to take advantage of the extraordinary physical and psychological benefits of horseback riding. The rhythmic motion of the horse acts as a

powerful tool to improve documented benefits of strength, coordination, flexibility, and balance. Therapeutic riding programs have been witness to autistic children uttering the name of their horse, wheelchair-bound individuals walking for the first time after a riding session, and thousands of children and adults who have a renewed enthusiasm for life after climbing aboard a horse. Few things in life are more rewarding than the smile of pride and joy n the face of a client after a few minutes of riding in an atmosphere of love and support

Our Horse Show was certainly different this year. The rain and water standing everywhere made parking a challenge. We couldn't have our bonfire for the wiener roast. But we had a great time in spite of it all!

So what did you learn to do this summer? Did you learn to check a saddle on a horse before you got on it? Did you work on voice or fine motor skills while balancing on a moving animal? Did you work on trusting something or someone other than your family/friends? Well... we did in the EquiVenture Barn! We watched tears turn into smiles, tiny voices learning to command, and a few riders needing side walkers turned solo riders! And...we saw love! Love between a rider and THEIR horse, (and believe me, those are THEIR horses!), love between volunteers and riders, and care and love of volunteers to our hero horses. Today, we got to show off some of our summer skills to moms and dads, grandparents and aunts and uncles. We also had a very special visitor. 12 year old Britt Conrad, from Zionsville, was the 2022 EquiVenture Trophy presenter. When she was 4, Britt lost a portion of her leg in a lawn mowing accident. Keep an eye on this young lady, she has set many records in swimming and I hear the word Olympian could most definitely be in her future. What an inspiration to our riders as well as to all of us. Sadly I did not get to talk with her, but I will be cheering her on. Her face beamed passing out the sweet trophies to our kids today. It's always sad when our horse adventures are over for the year, but let's all reflect on the growth we have witnessed and look forward to even more next year!
