🚴‍♂️🥾 RussVegas Ridge is officially open!

Russellville celebrated the opening of its newest trail Thursday, welcoming hikers, mountain bikers and outdoor enthusiasts to a nearly mile-long route connecting West 12th Street to Skyline Drive.

The trail offers wooded scenery, switchbacks and views overlooking the city. But it's also part of a much bigger vision to connect Russellville's neighborhoods, parks and downtown through an expanding trail network.

We caught up with City Council member Chris Olson at today's ribbon cutting to talk about how the trail came together and what's coming next.

🎥 Our full video from the ribbon cutting and interview with Olson is coming soon!

Often, we recognize the results of our work. Today, we want to focus on everyone who came to help build something that our community will surely enjoy. The sacrifices made to show up, endure the heat while carrying heavy materials, and actively constructing this bridge were very much appreciated. This happened when other more pleasant options were likely forfeited. Once the bridge was assembled and the dirt work was finished, It was evident that everybody was proud of their work. Smiles, laughter, a little moaning, and staring at what we built, made it all worth it.

Great job team! Thank you.

Thank you, Craig Witcher for attending the bridge project this morning. You helped unload the lumber which was much appreciated. Unfortunately, since nobody else could make this event, we'll reschedule the build for another day. The lumber still needs to be transported to the build site. Something that 10 helpers would make much easier.

The Skyline Connector Trail is getting some serious enhancements. The lumber was picked up today for the bridge project. The rocks for the lower trailhead was ordered yesterday from Rainbow Stone. Delivery is expected early next week.

The biggest challenge we face now is getting the lumber to the bridge site which is approximately halfway up (or down) the very steep hill. The rock work should be Affordable Trail Solutions final hurrah for this trail project. For the bridge construction, stay tuned for an upcoming volunteer day.

RussVegas Ridge Trail is so close! What's left? A landing at Inglewood with an appealing rock border path that leads into the woods, and a bridge halfway up the trail. Well, maybe a few other clean-up items, too. For now were waiting on beam rock, clean shale fill, and cedar boards for the bridge. Hopefully the weather cooperates.

Stay tuned for upcoming volunteer opportunities on the new trail between Inglewood and Skyline. One of the events will involve assembling a small bridge. This work will involve transporting materials to the site and then construction of the bridge. The other opportunity will be much less strenuous and involve trash collection and trail beautification. Both of these events are tremendously rewarding and helps encourage trail stewardship and community involvement. Once we get the materials on hand we'll post the dates for the trail work days. We're also waiting for the mini excavator work to finish to make access easier.
