Pet Food Pantry -- Mission Accomplished!

It is with both gratitude and a touch of bittersweet emotion that we share important news: Spayed and Aid of Kentucky has successfully fulfilled the mission we set out to achieve.

Three years ago two local women had a dream – to start a charity to provide pet food and spay/neuter services to pets of Logan County residents experiencing financial difficulties. In January 2024 that dream became a reality when Spayed and Aid of Kentucky was formed. The organization quickly garnered local and national support. Later in 2024, a trap-neuter-release program was added to sterilize feral cats in the county.

Our results were stagering, showing that the need in the county was great:

2024
◦ 3,987 local pets fed
◦ 111 local pets spayed/neutered
◦ 145 feral cats sterilized

2025
◦ 4,644 local pets were fed
◦ 122 local pets were spayed/neutered
◦ 167 feral cats were sterlized.

We are proud to have brought this need to the attention of the local community, government, and other local non-profits and inspired others to take action. Over the past 48 months we have seen increased activity from the three local animal welfare groups surrounding these issues. All these organizations are busy and thriving. Trap-neuter-release programs have been added by two of the groups and pet pantries have been added by all three groups.

The growth of other organizations serving similar needs means the community is now well-supported, and we believe our mission can live on through their continued work.

Rather than duplicate efforts, we have chosen to step back, allowing resources and support to flow where they can have the greatest impact. As such, our Board of Directors has made the thoughtful decision to close the food pantry of Spayed and Aid of Kentucky as of 8/12/26. Our final distribution will be 8/11/26.

We are deeply thankful for every volunteer hour, every donation, and every word of encouragement. Your support has changed lives and will continue to inspire future acts of kindness.

And a special thanks to Brown Animal Hospital for helping the first year and Nashville Road Animal Hospital for supporting us for all three years of our journey.

The event is open to Logan County residents only. Be sure to bring a driver's license or piece of mail with a Logan County address.

Be prepared and keep your pets safe! 🎆

Independence Day is just around the corner, and local fireworks windows are officially opening. Check out when fireworks are legally permitted in your town so you aren't caught off guard.

We see tragedy strike every single year. The loud booms, flashes, and unpredictable noises can cause even the calmest pets to panic, break through fences, or slip out of collars.

Please take a few extra precautions during the holiday festivities to protect your best friend. Keeping your dogs and cats safely indoors is best. Turn on a TV, fan, or white noise machine to help drown out the scary sounds.

If you must allow your pet outdoors during this time, please ensure their ID tags and microchip are up-to-date. If your pet isn't microchipped yet, remember that it is a quick, permanent way to ensure the easiest reunification if the unthinkable should happen.
