โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ง **Hot Weather Reminder from the Senior Companion Program** ๐Ÿ’งโ˜€๏ธ

Summer is here, and so is the heat! While weโ€™re out caring for our friends and neighbors, itโ€™s important to remember that overheating can happen quicklyโ€”especially for older adults. Letโ€™s keep everyone safe, cool, and comfortable! ๐Ÿง“๐Ÿ‘ตโค๏ธ

๐Ÿ”ฅ **Watch out for signs of overheating:**

* Dizziness or feeling faint
* Heavy sweating or no sweating at all
* Headache or nausea
* Muscle cramps
* Confusion or unusual tiredness

๐Ÿ’ฆ **Hydration is your superpower!**

* Drink water regularlyโ€”even if you donโ€™t feel thirsty
* Keep a water bottle close by at all times
* Avoid too much caffeine or sugary drinks
* Eat water-rich foods like watermelon, oranges, and cucumbers ๐Ÿ‰๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฅ’

๐ŸŒณ **Cool down smart:**

* Stay in shaded or air-conditioned areas when possible
* Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
* Take breaks often if you're outside
* Use fans or cool cloths on your neck and wrists

๐Ÿ’ก **Did you know?**
Just a small drop in hydration can affect energy, balance, and thinkingโ€”making hydration extra important for staying independent and safe!

Letโ€™s look out for each other and make this a safe, healthy, and enjoyable summer for everyone we serve. ๐Ÿ’™

Did you know that social isolation can be as harmful to a seniorโ€™s health as smoking 15 ci******es a day?https://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/surgeon-general-social-connection-advisory.pdf

Loneliness increases the risk of depression, heart disease, memory loss, and other serious health concerns among older adults.

Thatโ€™s why the Senior Companion Program is so important. ๐Ÿ’™

Our volunteers provide more than just assistance โ€” they provide friendship, connection, encouragement, and hope. A simple visit, conversation, or shared laugh can brighten someoneโ€™s entire day and remind them they are not alone.

Every connection matters. Every visit makes a difference. Together, we are helping seniors stay independent, engaged, and connected to their communities.

If you are interested in becoming a Senior Companion, or know someone who could benefit from our services, please contact Laura McDaniel at 1-800-467-2170 or email [email protected]
