O’Bannon House Help Preserve History and Promote Patriotism The mission of the foundation is to restore and preserve the home built in 1812 by Lieutenant Presley N. Lt.

O’Bannon, United States Marine Corps. Our vision is that this hero’s home will become a venue for the conservation and exhibition of American history. Creating a place to learn, visit, stay and explore. Presley O’Bannon, USMC was the first American to plant our flag on foreign soil in 1805. The first stanza of the Marine Corps hymn speaks to his heroic action, “To the shores
of Tripoli.”

The Marine Corp League, Department of Kentucky held their annual conference at the O’Bannon House on June 21, 2025. Presiding at the conference was Jack Mattingly, Commandment. The O’Bannon House Preservation Foundation appreciates this opportunity to officially consider this occasion as our “kick off “ to Project 250! And we say what an appropriate place to hold this conference, at the home of Lt. Presley Neville O’Bannon, hero of Derne and the first American to plant the flag on foreign soil.
