Community members and local agency representatives are warmly invited to join us. We meet monthly from September through June every year. We are committed to honoring the uniqueness of each individual in our community. We believe that economic status, religion, language, race, ethnicity, ability, gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation should not be barriers to getting help in our communit
y or to joining our Task Force. We strive to be an inclusive community group and welcome input into how to improve our efforts at promoting inclusion, honoring diversity, and advancing equity in everything we do. We work on a variety of prevention, outreach, training, service, and service coordination efforts. The Task Force founded Hilltown Safety at Home (413-667-2203) which provides local advocacy services in the hills, and is now run by Hilltown Community Health Centers. Hilltown Safety at Home provides transportation and can make home visits if it is deemed safe. The Task Force is one of several partners that launched a new, first in the nation Helpline for people at risk of abusing their partner who want to change (www.acallforchangehelpline.org). We support the Hilltown Domestic Violence Interfaith Initiative which works to make sure everyone knows the hilltown faith community does not support or condone abuse. We work closely with Gateway schools on a variety of prevention projects including the first social norms dating violence prevention project in the country as well as annual White Ribbon Campaigns, school-wide writing prompts, essay contests, and the Karen Hart scholarship. In 2004 the Task Force released a fatality review on the murder of Karen Trudeau which changed and influenced court practices statewide and beyond. Task Force outreach projects include bystander campaigns using dozens of local residents in public service ads, and brochures aimed at those who are being abused but do not intend to leave their home. We firmly believe that whether someone goes or stays is their choice, and we stand ready to support people as they make their own decisions about their own life.
