Cherokee Civic Theatre

Cherokee Civic Theatre While based in Cherokee County, Texas, our mission is to keep the arts alive in the greater East Texas area.

Our all-volunteer, non-profit community organization, dedicated to presenting & promoting the dramatic arts, presents 4 "main stage" productions each season with other programs throughout the year. CCT also provides "TNT", a 2-week youth arts camp for Grades 1 through 12 each July that culminates in 5 one-act productions created by 70-75 talented young people. We welcome new members, volunteers and other supporters to join in our creative fun.

Our first mainstage show of the season is right around the corner! "Dearly Departed" is a classic “southern-fried” comedy where the funeral of one “mean & onery” fellow leads to arguments revived, secrets revealed & lots of laughs all around!

to “The Trip to Bountiful” which ran 3 dates in April 1991. This play followed an aging widow, as she makes a determined escape from the cramped Houston apartment she shares with her overprotective son and her bossy daughter-in-law, to return to her beloved hometown of Bountiful one final time before she dies.

During the final performance, a Sunday Matinee, severe storms rolled into Rusk, which had hail hitting the roof and tornadoes touching down nearby. Many audience members initially thought the tornado sirens were part of the play, but it kept sounding. Some nervous audience members then began to leave seeking alternative shelter or to get a hold of loved ones while the play continued for a bit. After taking a long intermission the play did conclude, and audiences “all forgot the storm.” The cast and crew included:

We are looking for a Marine, with a full uniform, who would be willing to be in Annie. It is only 1 scene, no lines are required and there is no age limit! Please let us know if you would be interested in this role!
