Today on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the Old North State Chapter participated in the “UNIITE For Good” challenge to take back the tragic day and turn it into one million good deeds. ONS Daughters filled food trays at Second Harvest Food Bank for senior services, Meals on Wheels, after-school meals for children, etc. Not only was it a fun day, it was profoundly meaningful for all of us. 1534 meals were prepared today with love. 🇺🇸

The welcome bags for the teachers were
WELL received today at Anderson Academy! Laura Vance, our Regent, gave a great introduction of ONS to the staff and several of our members had a chance to tour the campus.

It was such a fun day at Crossnore Communities for Children celebrating DAR Day and the bond between the two organizations. The day began with an update on the progress at Anderson Academy and then we were invited to see the classrooms. They are modern, inviting, comfortable, and cheerful. The teachers and Principal are kind and enthusiastic. We were able to shop with the Crossnore weavers and got to meet a couple of the farm sheep, Rebecca and Sarah. The school cafeteria provided boxed lunches and we enjoyed visiting Daughters from all over NC. On top of that, Daughters from South Carolina, Georgia, California and Alaska attended as well!

Our beloved Chapter, Old North State, was well represented, acknowledged, and honored at the 126th NC State Conference on April 23-26, 2026.

In attendance were Cathie Alexander, Julia Floyd, Ellen Seaback, Debbie Williams, and Dawn Hughes. Dawn presented the report on Women's Issues, Julia sang in the State Chorus, and Ellen rang Handbells with the State Ringers.

Additionally, our ONS flag looked fabulous with its many ribbons in the flag lineup in the Empire Ballroom. We received many acknowledgements and accolades from the podium and on the screens. A highlight was Onyinyechi “Onyi” Ezeigbo receiving her Cordon Street Scholarship during the Educational Awards Luncheon. Onyi plans to attend Penn in the fall pursuing pre-med classes. What a proud moment!

On Sunday morning, we attended the Memorial Service which Daughters who passed in the last year were recognized. We were honored to stand and fondly remember our beloved sister Alice Sineath.

Our many award certificates will be displayed during the end-of-year celebration luncheon & meeting on May 14th. We hope you'll stop by the table to see the many ways Old North State spread our wings in service to God, Home, and Country during this past year.

Super fun day at Old Richmond Elementary celebrating Earth Day with a great group of kids! A few hundred K-5th graders in groups of 30 every 15 minutes keeps you busy but it’s so much fun. This year we made upcycled snakes using rope, ice cream sticks, and tape. After the kids made their snakes they learned some fun facts and we read a poem by Shel Silverstein called “Boa Constrictor”. It’s one of my favorite projects the Old North State DAR chapter does every year. ~Dawn Bryant

As we celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary this year, today we honored our student award winners! Homeschooled HS student Michael Yamash*ta spoke (rather than read his essay) about Haym Salomon, the financier of the Revolutionary War.
