Idaho Battle of Books!! The club did well, taking first place in the regional competition in Sun Valley! Our Kiwanis club supported them with a donation to help them get there!
The team read 16 books of all genres and had to answer questions to determine which book is referenced and asked about content of books. They shared their passion of reading books with us! They learned note-taking skills, making friends, gaining leadership skills in addition to reading books. What a fun group of kids!

The Burley Farmers Market is a well-rounded family-friendly event that is staffed by youth who help vendors set up booths and haul product to various booths. They also have kids' activities on site and further support other activities with fruits and vegetables in other circles. This non-profit program is a great way to meet others and provide support to local vendors and teens involved in the market!
Donations from businesses and individuals are accepted throughout the year.

Simply Hope provided our program today to share all their work with families and teens. They've served 450 youth so far and average about 20 kids each night. They help with basic life skills and refer out to counselors or other medical professionals for appropriate support. We are proud to support Simply Hope that serves the Mini-Cassia region, and grateful for their service to improve kids' lives!

Our program today was Declo Jr High cross-country/track with Coaches Anderson and Runyon bringing 3 team members. In addition to running fast, they have goals to have positive experiences outside of sports and to make sure each participant feels loved and accepted. Kylee Webb, Kayson Turpin and Heber Garratt shared their experiences and lessons learned--working through injuries and challenges, setting and achieving goals, and supporting others to build self esteem.
They'd like to purchase running watches as well as time-keeping system at track meets. They're accepting donations for such.
Meet with us each Tuesday at noon at the Elks Lodge in Rupert for comeradery and a good program each week.

Many thanks to some of Burley Junior High's IDFY group including Wesley, Kaydence, Autumn, Keith, Kamrie, Ema, and Lincoln, supported by Ms. Brewer and Mr. Company. They look forward to another camp experience June 16-19 where they learn to stand against substance abuse, as well as learn how to better communicate, improve confidence and mental health, leadership skills, and gain a happier outlook on life. They have also helped out in their school by providing hygiene kits to those in need. Keep up the great work!

How's your sense of smell? Jeff McEwen from Rupert police and both Minidoka and Cassia sheriffs talked about and showed the skills of their canine officers. After a couple hundred hours of training time, their dogs can smell drugs-- up to 30 days' after them being removed. Officer Tyson Damron and his dog Riggs showed off their skills. Impressive!!
Come join us next Tuesday at noon for another great program!

Risa Mortensen is working to develop a Mini-Cassia Children's Advocacy Center. She worked at the only facility in Idaho (Nampa) as the clinician and feels that the need to support children with traumatic issues here locally is great and has received grants to be open in Burley. Trafficking, domestic violence and other emotional issues can be addressed. She is wanting to purchase a facility and looking for donations to support the 501c-3 entity that she has formed. See www.mini-cassiafjc.org for more details.
