AUSTRALIA’S MASSIVE WIND ENERGY PROJECT

Victoria has approved the Warracknabeal Energy Park, a proposed wind farm with up to 219 turbines and around 1.5 GW of renewable energy capacity.

The project will also include 600 MW of battery storage. If it receives final federal approval, it could become the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere, generating enough electricity to power around 1.2 million homes.

Australia still relies heavily on coal, making projects like this an important part of its broader shift toward renewable energy.

🌬️🇦🇺 AUSTRALIA’S $5 BILLION WIND POWER PROJECT

Victoria has given the green light to the massive Warracknabeal Energy Park, a renewable energy project expected to attract more than $5 billion in investment.

The project could feature up to 219 wind turbines, generating more than 1.5 GW of electricity, alongside two 300-MW battery storage systems.

If it receives final federal approval, the project could become the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere, producing enough electricity to power around 1.2 million homes.

The project is also expected to create around 950 construction jobs and help Victoria expand its renewable energy capacity. 🌱⚡

GLOBAL COAL DEMAND IS SET TO HIT A NEW RECORD IN 2026

The International Energy Agency (IEA) expects global coal demand to rise 1.2% in 2026, reaching a record 8.94 billion tonnes.

The Middle East conflict has pushed natural gas prices higher, encouraging some countries to switch from gas back to coal for electricity generation. Coal use is expected to be higher than previously forecast in several major markets, including Europe, Japan, South Korea and China.

At the same time, strong cooling demand and lower hydropower generation in parts of Asia are adding further pressure on coal consumption.

This is a reminder that geopolitical crises can slow the global shift away from fossil fuels.

The International Energy Agency now expects global coal demand to rise 1.2% in 2026, reaching a record 8.94 billion tonnes.
