A Veteran who dies by su***de is not a coward.

Recently, a Green Star family shared that someone called their son a coward because he died by su***de.

Imagine losing your child and then having someone reduce their entire life, their service, and their struggles to one cruel word.

That Veteran raised his hand to serve our country. He had a life, a family, people who loved him, and battles others may never fully understand.

Su***de does not erase courage.
It does not erase honorable service.
And it does not erase a family's sacrifice.

Before you judge a Veteran's death, remember there is a family left behind who will carry that loss for the rest of their lives.

Their life was more than how it ended.

To every Green Star family: We see you. We honor your Veteran. And we stand beside you.

They served. Their families sacrificed.

25 Years Later. We Remember. - Join Washington Memorial Chapel and the Veterans Commission for a special 25th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Service on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.

Together we will honor those lost on September 11, 2001, remember the heroes who answered the call, and reflect on the resilience and unity that carried our nation forward. The service will begin in the Chapel and conclude with a walk to the grave of Louis J. Nacke II, a local hero of Flight 93, for prayers, reflection, and the tolling of bells. As we mark the 25th anniversary of this historic day, all are welcome to join us in remembrance and reflection.

We want our Green Star families to know: This mission is being heard. 🇺🇸💚
On November 12, 2025, H.R. 6022, the Sgt. Walter F. Hartnett IV Green Star Veterans Service Act, was officially introduced in the 119th Congress.
Sponsor: Congressman Rob Bresnahan Jr.
Current bipartisan co-sponsors include:
🇺🇸 Rep. Madeleine Dean
🇺🇸 Congressman Jay Obernolte
🇺🇸 Rep. Tom Suozzi
🇺🇸 Congressman Jeff Van Drew
🇺🇸 Mark Pocan
This legislation represents something many families impacted by veteran su***de have asked for for years:
Recognition. Visibility. And acknowledgment that their loved ones, and their families matter.
We know there is still work ahead, but this is an important step forward.
We encourage you to contact your legislators and ask them to support H.R. 6022 and help ensure these families are no longer invisible.
Thank you to every family, advocate, veteran, and supporter helping shine a light on this mission. 💚

Today, we celebrate the United States Coast Guard’s 236th birthday!

On Aug. 4, 1790, the Revenue Cutter Service—now known as the U.S. Coast Guard—was created by Congress at the request of Alexander Hamilton. Today, the Coast Guard is the oldest continuously operating maritime service in the country and has been involved in every major American conflict since its founding.

To our Coast Guardsmen: Semper Paratus. We honor and celebrate you today and every day. Thank you for your service.

America Turns 250

On July 4, 2026, the United States will celebrate its Semiquincentennial—the 250th anniversary of American independence. This milestone commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, marking the birth of a new nation.

The 250th anniversary is expected to be one of the largest national commemorations in U.S. history. Through the America250 initiative, communities across the country are organizing events that encourage Americans to reflect on their history, honor past generations, and consider the future of the nation.
