Preserve Royal Oak

Preserve Royal Oak It wasn't that long ago when an oversized Krogers development was proposed in the heart of our city. Well, what kind of standard is that?!

Now we may get a better project Let us know what you think. Like this page and join the conversation to PRESERVE ROYAL OAK (PRO). When the Kroger's debacle was being considered, it appeared to us at PRO that Kroger supporters weren't necessarily that happy about the Krogers proposal but rather felt 'it was better than an empty car lot". Today, we're looking at a proposed hotel, mixed use, apartme

nt and parking complex. So much more going on but it appears to be a better fit is terms of size and impact to the immediate neighborhood. Good things are worth waiting and fighting for. Standing up and questioning what happens in our community is a good thing. It is the reason we created Preserve Royal Oak - to enable everyone who holds Royal Oak dear to join the conversation about preserving the integrity of the community and to provide information on how those who care about Royal Oak can impact its future.

OK folks - things are getting serious here. Heck of a lot of detail to sort out including: 1. What get's built first and how do we ensure it all gets built? 2. Number of parking spots (how often do you hear residents clamoring for TALLER parking structures...parking is a serious concern) 3. We still do not the names of the individuals financing any of this so the city's due diligence is somewhat compromised at this point.

After failed attempts and flawed decisions regarding a hotel at 696, we applaud members of the Plan Commission and City Commission who will take the time to wade through this detail and make sound decisions. No time to NOT read your packets PC and CC members.

Cautiously optimistic!

UNANIMOUS LACK OF SUPPORT FOR KROGER PROPOSAL BY ROYAL OAK PLAN COMMISSION
Noting concerns regarding the size, design and location of the proposed Kroger, the Royal Oak Plan Commission unanimously requested that a formal motion of denial be drafted, complete with all of the legal reasons for a defensible decision, for their vote at August's meeting. Daily Tribune recaps the marathon Royal Oak planning commission meeting. Like we said before, Kroger has a LOT of work to do revising the monster plan it proposed if they want the commission to approve a new one. Kroger, in typical corporate fashion, compares Royal Oak to Grosse Pointe, but wants to treat our city completely differently and with far less respect.
