Here’s a trailer for the PBS series. This documentary explores the histories of people who helped shape Southeast Michigan, starting with the arrivals of their families in the region. Former DAFT President and Board Member Len Radjewski Fraga’s family story will be featured as part of the premiere of PBS Detroit's Channel 56 documentary "Destination Detroit" this coming Monday, June 22 at 9 pm.

Destination Detroit explores the rich history of Southeast Michigan and the people who have shaped it through a collection of interviews and stories.

The Senior reel at the 58th Michigan Student Film Festival begins this Saturday at 12:30 at the Detroit Film Theatre! The 30 Best of Show selections are chosen from over 450 entries from around the state, and represent a sample of the excellent work being produced by student filmmakers around Michigan. From animation and narrative to news reports and documentaries to films that don't fit neatly into any category, we were impressed this year by the scope, ambition, and creativity students are bringing to their work. DAFT congratulates BRETT SALAMIN who will be honored as Michigan's 2026 Media Educator of the Year at the 58th Michigan Student Film Festival at the DIA’s historic Detroit Film Theatre on Saturday April 18, 2026 at both the 10 AM K-8 and the 12:30 PM High School awards.

Brett has meshed his theatrical background seamlessly with his artistic eye and technological expertise at Detroit Country Day School which for years has produced excellence in the Michigan Student Film Festival as well as in national and international venues. TAKE ACTION TODAY
Our organization supports young media producers and their teachers. For more than 30 years support from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council has helped our organization put on workshops, festivals, and other events. Who has benefitted? The tens of thousands who have enjoyed our public programming, the thousands of students have gained creative production skills, and the many hundreds who have gone onto professional careers in media production, and several dozen whose creative work has been awarded recognition including multiple Oscar winners. Arts funding has huge impact on the quality of life for everyone in Michigan.
