#2 of 12 in our series of posts called “Living the Scout Law”. Sharing good vibes with our community and highlighting the ways our Scouts bring the values of the Scout Law into their daily lives.
Today in Living The Scout Law…
a Scout is *brave*.
Not many people are interested in braving temperatures below freezing to camp overnight with their friends in the snow! The risks of cold exposure are very real when you spend the night in a tent and campouts like this require preparation and education.
The Scouts of Troop 1610 chose to brave the cold and participated in a local Scouting tradition this weekend…The Hodag! It’s an annual winter derby (ie Klondike) held at Camp Agawam in Lake Orion. Units set-up camp on Friday afternoon and the following morning they rise early and participate in a full-day of outdoor events to test their teamwork, leadership, creativity, athleticism, and resilience.
The Hodag reminds our Scouts that preparation usually equals success, safety, AND comfort on campouts. It’s a day of fun and friendship, snowball fights and other shenanigans.
Who knew braving 24 hours in the snow could be so great?
