Young, Wild + Free Keeping the wild, wild! We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting wildlife. We are currently working on our website.

Our mission is to save the lives of wildlife, injured and orphaned, to get them back to the wild through proper care. Our goal is to educate the community on topics and information that a lot of people are unaware of, making sure we can coexist, be prepared and make ethical decisions when coming across injured or orphaned wildlife. Hello everyone!

We have moved to South Carolina, and will no longer be intaking wildlife in Metro Detroit. We are so appreciative of all of your love and support the last few years. We wanted to make sure that you have resources available locally, so if and when the time comes that you may need some help, please refer to:

Motor City Possum Rescue
Halfway Home Wildlife Rehab
Critter Crossing Rehabilitation
Howell Nature Center

These folks should be able to answer questions and point you in the right direction. Also remember that we are all small operating rescues, be kind, be patient, and donate if you are able to.

Phew what a year so far! We have been overloaded with injured and orphaned squirrels that we are finally getting a second to catch up and make the plans for each animal as the weather gets cooler.

We are officially closed for intake for the year as we have some things happening that we will share with you all shortly.

Here’s a little snippet on how some of our animals are doing! Enjoy, and thank you all for your continued support.

Hello everyone! We wanted to let you know that we will be closed for intakes until end of September. We have all of our babies with subpermitees and will be tending to our “real” job (hair and makeup artistry) as September is our busy month. Unfortunately, it is also busy baby season too, so we will be available to help point you in the right direction!

Just remember, if you come across wildlife, secure it, keep it warm, NO FOOD OR WATER, and contact a rehabber ❤️ you can get started here:

Happy Monday friends!

We have been swamped with calls and intakes the last 48 hours and we will be putting a hold on taking babies for a few days while we stabilize patients and get settled in.

We are here for questions and help finding your closest rehabber.

We will let you know when we are ready for more babies shortly! Have a great week 🐿️❤️

Our newest intakes! Three babies fell from a nest all over someone’s yard. One baby came in pretty injured so we are praying to the squirrel gods he pulls through. Meanwhile the two doing well are cuddling so hard! ❤️❤️‍🩹❤️

We have all of our littles with babysitters as we are on intake hold until Sunday afternoon/evening. In the meantime let’s watch how cute this little nuero mouse is. Thanks to my subs and fellow rehabbers for stepping up, it takes a village! ❤️

Little man, aka Henry, is no longer little 😅

Henry came in about 5 weeks ago from River Rouge. A kind soul heard him screaming for mom in his walls, so he took action and opened up his kitchen wall to find a sweet baby fox squirrel with eyes just cracking open.

Henry was emaciated, dehydrated, and seemed to have some respiratory situation, due to possibly inhaling lots of dust, mold, insulation, and drywall. We were quick to treat and get him back on his feet.

He is about 10 weeks old, although most would think he’s ready to be on his own based on his size, but Henry still has 6-8 more weeks in our care as we make sure he passes the checklist of release requirements.

Luckily, squirrels have an innate sense to bury nuts, forage, and make nests, but we need to make sure that his body is healthy and strong to do those things!

You got this, Henry! 🧡

Itty bitty squirrel committee!

Over the last week we have been slammed with pinky squirrel calls due to high winds and storms. We had ups and downs with them all, as getting these little ones healthy and sustaining them is a major undertaking.

With that being said, we thank each and every one of you that brought us babies. We also want to take this moment to remind the public that we do not pick up animals and ask that you bring them to us. Unfortunately, we received some very sassy calls and texts, and we wanted to clarify what’s happening on our end.

• We spend up to 18 weeks providing care for these littles.

• We wake up through the night to be sure they get fed.

• We work full time jobs while juggling animals.

• We think about their well-being 24/7 on top of the other things rolling around in our brain.

• We are cleaning and doing laundry on a daily basis, using our own washing machines (yuck, I know).

• When our organizations funds run short, we spend our own money to care for them.

• We make hard decisions to euthanize when necessary, and we always beat ourselves up over losses.

• We are one person, who is trying their best.

• We signed up to do this because we want to make a difference. We didn’t sign up to be misunderstood and treated as though this is our job.

The ONE thing we ask, is for you to transport ❤️ and hey, if you donate, that’s pretty cool too!

A huge thank you to our supporters.

Sorry for our radio silence. We have been busy with the second round of baby season this year, and are nose to the grindstone. Just a few pics of what’s happening over here because everyone is so adorable! 🐿️💗
