Nearly 10 years ago, Kate and I embarked on an incredible journey. Our mission was simple to save farm animals from cruelty and neglect. Sounds incredible simple right?
Before Heartwood Haven had a name, it was just Kate and I, a couple of animal lovers who couldn’t look away when an animal needed help.
What began with opening our hearts and homes to a few animals in need slowly grew into something neither of us could have imagined. One rescue led to another. One life saved led to another story worth fighting for. Along the way, we learned that while we couldn’t save every animal, we could make a difference for the ones who found their way to us.
There have been incredible highs and heartbreaking losses. We’ve celebrated recoveries we weren’t sure would happen and sat beside animals during their hardest moments. We’ve spent early mornings feeding, late nights worrying, and countless hours building a place where animals could finally feel safe.
What we never expected was the community that would grow around this mission.
Heartwood Haven isn’t just Kate and Hope anymore. It’s every volunteer who has shown up in the rain, every donor who has given what they could, every supporter who has shared our posts, attended our events, sponsored an animal, or simply believed in what we’re trying to do.
Because of you, animals who once knew fear now know safety. Animals who were discarded now know love. Animals who had nowhere else to go have a place to call home.
As we prepare for the next chapter and work toward building our medical barn, we’re reflecting on how far we’ve come. None of it would have been possible without this community.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of this journey. Thank you for caring about animals who are so often overlooked. Thank you for helping us build something bigger than ourselves.
Heartwood Haven started with two people and a dream. Today, it stands because of all of you.
