Hailed as "artists in the deepest sense of the word" (CutCommon), Merz Trio, winners of the Naumburg, Concert Artists Guild, Fischoff, and Chesapeake Competitions, have been lauded for their "stunning virtuosity… fresh and surprising interpretations" (Reading Eagle), and "perfection of intonation and ensemble" (Hudson Review). Merz Trio are passionately committed to reshaping the narrative of clas

sical music through vibrantly dynamic programming and wide-ranging interdisciplinary collaboration. Their narrative programming style juxtaposes classical standards, new music, and their own arrangements of familiar and forgotten works, fluidly interwoven and guided with speaking from the Trio's members. Their interdisciplinary collaborations include ongoing projects with dancer Caroline Copeland, Sandglass Puppet Theater, chef David Bouley, and videographer Chris Kitchen. The Trio are equally known for their more immersive integrations of music and text in performance, ranging from their recital-theater piece built around Shakespeare's Macbeth ("Those Secret Eyes"), to their debut album interweaving Ravel's Trio with short pieces, poems, and diaries of the era ("Ink," August, 2021), to be presented in a live concert format (“Ink Spills”) for the 2021-2022 season. Finally, in their prolific arranging, the Trio are committed to uplifting overlooked voices from history, ranging from Hildegard von Bingen to Lili and Nadia Boulanger, from Joséphine Baker to Irish folk melodies. In the coming few seasons, Merz Trio look forward to debuts at Merkin Hall in NYC, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, among other notable performance. Merz Trio have been encouraged in their explorations by numerous institutional homes around the world: New England Conservatory, Yellow Barn, Snape Maltings, Avaloch Farm Institute, the Naumburg Foundation, the Lake Champlain, Olympic, and Chesapeake Music Festivals, and the Fischoff Competition, as well as many other venues and hosts around the US, Australia and the UK. They are currently represented by Concert Artists Guild and make their home in Boston.

Merz Trio made it to BOONE! ⛰️☀️🎹🎻
Despite multiple flight cancellations, rebookings and a late night mountain drive to get here, we (or some of us) maintain our love for Decaf, and are grateful our 36 hours in this beautiful Appalachian town.

Thanks to for two fun masterclasses with your string orchestra and pianists, and to and Laura Pritchett for such a lovely audience and concert experience!

Special thanks to our dear friend for joining us on this adventure, and for her gorgeous music making and wonderful company❤️😍

Merz “Winter” Tour, part 1: San Miguel de Allende / Houston edition 🌞

We loved our first 5 days of 2026 tour returning to the gorgeous town of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. All senses were engaged in this vibrant city! We were also delighted to be back at Chamber Music Houston where we premiered our take on Schönberg’s Verklärte Nacht.

Musically, it’s been a rich and ambitious start with programs of Shostakovich C minor, Brahms B major, Schubert E-flat major, Dvořák F minor, Beethoven C minor, and the Verklärte Nacht - not the usual Merz programming perhaps, but more than happy to oblige with some of our favorites in the rep!

Now off to Philadelphia for a salon concert at Bryn Mawr on Friday (message for details) and Philadelphia Chamber Music Society concert, featuring Shostakovich’s Blok Songs with !

In the midst of seasons turning, we send you our sincere wishes for a fulfilling 2026. Our miles in music traveled in 2025 brought us to many of your vicinities, and we are so grateful for your musical kinship.

We look forward to more sharing of this living art form as we bring our programs to Mexico, Houston, Philadelphia, Louisville, and Virgin Islands for our January-February 2026 tour. More details below.

We hope to share music’s gifts of transformation and renewal together with you in 2026. For now, we offer you some Schubert: the music of a young artist insisting on hope in the face of despair.
