Today we honor the extraordinary contributions of two local plein air legends, Lisbeth Firmin and Richard Kathmann. Lisbeth and Richard were renowned for their plain air painting skills in our area and often taught on the subject. They were and are still deeply loved by their friends and community and are very much missed.

Though never formal members of the East Branch Delaware River Plein Air Painters, the current group show in the Walter Meade Gallery recognizes their legacy which continues to inspire and enrich our community. To read more about their artistic biographies and see examples of their work, you can visit at the East Branch Delaware River Plein Air Painters show page at https://roxburyartsgroup.org/exhibitions/eastbranch. The show remains on view through July 3rd.

How’s this for spring cleaning? On Saturday members of RAG’s staff and board got together to tackle years of long term storage. Once a viable storage solution, the basement of the Roxbury Arts Center has proven to be prone to flooding, causing its contents to become molded and mildewed. Thanks to the Downtown Revitalization Initiative funds RAG has received however, plans are set to rebank the center’s parking lot, which will hopefully abet this issue. What could this space become in the future for the community— artist studios, a workshop space? The possibilities are endless! ✨ In the meantime, thanks to our dedicated team, important documents, vintage posters and glassware have been saved, and what remained is ready to be hauled away. Let us know if you’d like to join us in throwing this all into a dumpster soon! 💪

Two masters of improvised music unite for an unforgettable evening at the Old School Baptist Church on Saturday, June 20 at 7:30 PM.

Tomeka Reid brings her visionary cello work alongside multi-instrumentalist Marty Ehrlich, a leading voice from New York's downtown avant-garde jazz scene since the 1980s. Together they will share an evening rich in improvisation that honors and extends the legacy left by cellist Abdul Wadud and saxophonist/flautist Julius Hemphill, two musical pioneers whose boundary-breaking collaborations in the 1970s and '80s redefined what improvised music could be. Don't miss this incredible concert in a historic venue! Tickets available at
