Another year, another successful stream cleanup with Raritan Headwaters Association! Led by the Roxbury Environmental Commission, the team of volunteers picked up litter along the shores of Black River Pond in Succasunna. The collective action of the cleanups throughout the watershed helps keep plastic and other trash out of our rivers, lakes, and oceans. Thank you to all the volunteers who came out!

The Roxbury Environmental Commission won the coveted ANJEC Environmental Achievement Award for its role in the Black River Park Restoration!

The Roxbury Environmental Commission (EC) secured a grant from Raritan Headwaters Association (RHA) to replant the riparian buffer at Black River Park. The grant obtained by the EC from RHA provided over 150 native plants, bushes, trees and fencing. The Rotary Club and Roxbury DPW removed the invasive plants from the site. The re-planting took place in April 2025 by the Roxbury DPW, the Rotary, RHA’s grant project managers and the EC.

At midnight, on May 19, 1984, 13 teams set out on a 24-hour treasure hunt. Their mission: To tally as many different species of birds by sight or sound. Their objective: To raise money for their favorite environmental cause, and to focus attention on the habitat needs of migrating birds.
