Week 2 of summer fun is a wrap!! We finished off camp with Person County Beekeepers Association member Bob Brauer talking introduction to honey bees! The kids asked great questions and really enjoyed all the information on how to protect the bees.

We also worked on vermicomposting using bananas, wet newspaper and top soil so everyone could take home their very own worm composting bin!!

We rounded off the day with insect catching (sadly didn't get many because of the dry grounds) and having the kids create their own 2D pollinator gardens using the pollinators they learned about throughout camp.

We are planning for our next camp to be on July 11. We will also have multiple other camps throughout the summer, so if there's a certain day or date that is more convenient for most of our potential campers, please leave a comment.😊

2/3 of earth explorations camp!

Started off the day Village Gallery Florist Rolling Hills Garden Center. Matt moore gave an incredible tour and the kids wrote down pollinators as they walked through to put in their 2D pollinator garden we will be making on our final day.

Thank you so much Rolling hills for also allowing each student to pick a perennial pollinator plant of their choosing!! The kids LOVED them!!

The kids finished the day learning about plant propagation and planting their own seeds, sprouted and cut plants!

Better late than never! Cloverbud camp June 2-4 was our kickoff to summer fun! We had 15 youth have 3 days of snap and paper circuits, shadow box crafts and pollinators!!

Day 1/3 of earthy explorations camp is a wrap!! Thank you Nancy and Skylar from Person Soil & Water Conservation District for teaching during our morning session it was incredible!!

In the afternoon Johnny Coley -person/Granville horticulture agent and Hailee Dickerson - Person 4-H agent taught on the charges of soil nutrients and plant deficiencies. At the end the kids did a little presentation on what deficiency their plants they made had!!

Day 2/3 we will visit rolling hills plant nursery for a tour and class on planting then come back to learn about plant propagation and catch insects!!

4-H had a blast tonight during our person county livestock club meeting. We had Luna the highland on the show halter. She was awesome and had January the bottle lamb (first time with a halter) out at the extension office.

Everyone loved having a turn walking and practicing setting up the lamb and learning about the basics of showing and judging.

So excited to be relaunching our Livestock Club!! We will have more of a showing and judging based club!

No farm or livestock necessary!
