YAY YAY YAY - our clothing swap is finally here and me & are so so excited!

This even is hosted at Butcher’s Daughter Family Room, tomorrow starting at 5:30-7:30, with a $5 door fee. You are welcome to come on time and leave before we end OR come late and stay until the end! We just are happy for you to join!!!

Now, for the items you can bring:
✨Bring 10-15 (if you bring more, we won’t tell 😉) items that are clean and at the most gently used.
✨Bring your spring/summer items that need a new home: shirts, skirts, dresses, pants, shorts, hats, shoes, jewlery… anything that would fall under the category of clothing items or accessories.
✨Once you get to the event, we will show you where to lay your items out and how the clothing swap will work in terms of choosing your new items.
✨At the end of the night, anything that does not get chosen will be taken by either me or to a donation center. That way you are only going home with your new items.

A clothing swap is a wonderful way to not only practice sustainable fashion, but it is basically GIRRRLLLSS NIIIGGGHHHTTTTT!!!! If you have any questions, please message me!

WHOOP WHOOP - our next Maker’s Night is coming up!!!! 🌟🪩

It has been a joy to keep the true heartbeat of what The Commonplace previously was by continuing to facilitating a night for community gathering. Maker’s Night’s really became the cornerstone for connection building and confidence boosting, and one of my personal favorite events to host!

We have recently endured some wild North Carolina weather, but and I felt like there was no better way to tempt Spring into making her true debut than hosting a clothing swap in her honor.

is the mastermind behind clothing swap, and typically has some of the most fought over items… would you expect anything less from a vintage queen?!? NOPE! ✨

Clothing swaps are simple, you bring 10-15 items of clothing that are clean and in good condition and you walk home with some new (& free) pieces. Maker’s Night will be hosted Thursday, March 26th in family room from 5:30-7:30, with a $5 door fee. More details to come about appropriate items to bring.

YAY - she’s back!

I’m so excited to kick off Maker’s Night again, and what better way to ring in the New Year than with an intentional craft. will be leading us in bingo and punch card making, and FEAR NOT, if you have never participated in a new year’s craft like this YOU’RE GONNA LOVE IT. However, to ease your worries, bingo and punch cards are a creative way to document your hopes and intentions for 2026. This is a wonderful time to join in community to celebrate each other’s goals AND your own. So, make sure to come having thought about what some of your goals might be or might not be (my bingo card will NOT have anything about waking up early but I can’t wait to celebrate the bingo cards that do ✨).

I started my very first Commonplace post with my favorite greeting of choice: “to all that may read.” At that time, this greeting was just a greeting, an opening to a bunch of words letting the world know I was starting something new and hoping they would show up and take part. Now, I write the same greeting, yet I know all the people who may read, because they did show up and they did take part, and they changed my life.

To all that may doubt whimsy, I am here to confirm that whimsy is not only powerful- it’s worth giving up everything at least once or twice in your life to find and for those of you who live in this tiny town like me, extraordinary is here. Our town has heart and depth and houses a bunch of wonderfully weird people doing cool stuff. We are all lucky to call home to a place that has a pulse creatively. There are spaces for the ones who seek; The Commonplace was only one of them.

To all who may harbor a dream, let it out babes. Go forth bravely with irreverence to how you are supposed to, sprinkle it with a healthy pinch of delusion, and know that I will be cheering for you. I have met many a dreamer and many a free person, and it has always seemed worth it. They are not greedy with their tenderness or ashamed of their soft or sad parts.

To all who may be living out your vision, choose the path of least resentment. There is beauty and scariness in staying the course or leaving for new, but whichever choice allows you to sacrifice the least amount of goodness is your winner. The world is big enough for the stayers and the leavers, but it deserves to experience us alive and present, fighting the yucky and bitter.

To all who may read and wonder if this is some version of a resignation letter - yes. I am quitting my job. I started The Commonplace Studio & Collective, and now I am stopping. This experience has given shape to my life, and the people who took part have made me a better person. Running a business is not for me, for other people of course, just not me. My craft, I will always keep and practice, but in smallness & slowness. I am grateful and thankful and forever in debt to the curious and creative.

☕️The philosophy of an event like this is to facilitate a community gathering where we will reset our relationship with fashion and embrace the sentiment that one man’s trash is certainly another man’s treasure.

✨ Thrift-A-Bull Market- is a vintage and craft market hosted by Kotuku Surf Club every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. We are joining in on their second market this month, Saturday, April 26th. The market runs from 11am-5pm and is packed with fabulously quirky and unique vendors offering one of a kind vintage finds and craft goods. No entry fee.

✨ Maker’s Night (Date TBD)- The perfect blend of community and creativity where we gather with our local friends who have a heart for making. This is your chance to bring your craft to the table and make alongside others. This is a free event.

We tried something a little different for & Private Session, a handbuilding class! 😍💖✨

The girls wanted to make a couple of cute coffee mugs and wanted to try handbuilding instead of wheel throwing and just look how wonderful their mugs turned out!

✨First mug is our clear dip glaze with stripes using a combo glaze of Birch & Cordovan.

✨Second mug is strips in both Green Tea & Indigo Float.

Thank you so much to both girls for joining in for a class at the studio - it was so much fun to change things up a bit! I mean, come on, name something better than for your favorite coffee mug to be one you made?!? 😉

Brooke had a vision for some cute travel style mugs, but was open to my own personal spin and thus these sweeties were born!

✨3 mugs feature our Rasberry Mist glaze and 3 mugs feature our Green Tea glaze.

I love when someone comes to the studio and I’m able to be a witness to their own creative heart, which was certainly the case with Ashley! I mean, come on, how often do you get a handpainted AND handwritten note from someone?

Have you ever wondered what the final results are from a Paint Your Own Mug Class here at The Commonplace? Weeeelllll, it looks a little something like this (scroll to see 💖👀)!

A bit about the studio glazes used:
✨First mug is who used our Rasberry Mist and Green Tea for her skinny stripes.
✨ Second mug is Mikayla Long who used our duo, Birch + Cordovan, for the body and Indigo Float for her star.
✨ Third mug is using our Rasberry Mist and Cordovan for her chunky stripes.

I have always loved the PYOM class because every time, each mug comes out uniquely different and personal. What a joy to witness!

❄️🌨️ Yucky sucky weather won this weekend, no market for us, buuutttt we have rescheduled for next Saturday, March 1st. is hosted by Kotuku Surf Club and runs from 11am-5pm. We will be setting up and selling AND neighbors with (a familiar face ✨) and plenty more sweet & unique vendors! Not to mention the market is in walking distance to Cocoa Cinnamon, my favorite coffee shop in Durham.

Here’s a little preview of some pieces that I’ll be bringing with me and they will be looking for a new home! As always, all work is handmade by me (.a.jacobs) from start to finish at .

I hope to see some Roxboro friends there- trust me, as a market goer, I can say this one always hits, and looking forward to making new Durham friends!

Our Galentine’s Night at The Commonplace was soothing to the soul! 🥹💖⭐️

Thank you so much to , & for joining in and coming up with some of the CUTEST designs AND thank you to .longg for joining in on all the yapping and helping us out with a little caffeine fix! ☕️

I personally love a ladies night, getting to hear about others lives while being offered a space to share your own, what is better??? ANNNDDDDD I do think girls run the world which I was clearly reminded I am correct because these mugs are next level!!!! 🔥

Don’t you wait, we will be sharing how these creations come out after their final fire - stay tuned!
