So glad we have been to be able to keep this program going for the past 5 years and hopefully have made a difference in the lives of many. Belinda would be proud. Bigger and better ROCK 2.0 coming soon! Stay tuned!!

In 2004, Judge Belinda Loveland, of Rowlett, started an organization that would help local kids for the next decade. She ran Reaching Our Communities Kids (ROCK), a nonprofit mentoring program, for six of those years, before dying in June 2010.

R.O.C.K. - Reaching Our Community's Kids is pleased to announce Celeste Rowe as our 2013 scholarship recipient. Celeste is a 2013 graduate of Rowlett High School. She has been active in ROCK throughout the years. Starting as a participant in middle school and most recently serving as a high school mentor. Celeste is a fine example of the impact ROCK can make on young lives. We are proud of her accomplishments and can't wait to see her future successes. Congrats Celeste!

We would like to thank all of those who have donated time and money to make this scholarship fund available to such amazing students! Belinda would be so proud of what a difference your donations have made in a program she so loved. Thank you!

R.O.C.K. - Reaching Our Community's Kids is pleased to announce Audrey Heckman as the 2012 scholarship winner! Audrey is a 2012 graduate of Rowlett High School. Audrey was an amazing assistant and leader of our spring 2012 R.O.C.K program. Here are her thoughts on the impact of R.O.C.K:

"For seven weeks in the spring of 2012, substantial change was made in the lives of 40 middle school children. Through the motto "choice not chance determines one's destiny," high school students drove the program to inspire the middle schoolers to make the right decisions in life. We accomplished teaching the kids traits of good character, self-perception, personal "swag," and the importance of saying no to potentially life-changing situations. We developed strong mentor-mentee relationships with each other, but more importantly, we became friends with them. The junior and senior mentors were truly role models in every way possible, and I hope that next year we would be able to create a new section to the program called Rockstars. This would consist of eighth grade students who had been in the program for the prior two years, and would help the older students in preparation for the meetings. Honestly, R.O.C.K. was one of the most fun experiences I encountered in high school because I knew that making a difference wasn't really that difficult, it just required a positive attitude and a heart for positive change."

Congrats Audrey!

In spirit of the spring ROCK program starting on February 29th, please read an amazing reflection written by Marisa McFadin. It is now up on the Loveland ROCK, Inc. website. Very inspiring!

By: Marisa McFadin I met Belinda several years ago working as a caseworker at Child Protective Services. We worked with several families together and in one particular case she helped facilitate the adoption of 3 siblings and in no doubt saved them from a life of poverty, drug exposure and homeles...

Message from Tiffany Karns: "Gearing up for another year of ROCK at Coyle, starting Feb. 29! Lots of awesome high school and adult volunteers are chomping at the bit to make a big difference with the kids. A few of our high school mentors were some of our first sixth grade ROCK mentored. I know you are so proud of them."

We are so excited to have Belinda's program continue this year. Thank you for your continued support.
