Dear Friends and Supporters:
We have truly been in awe of all the love and support that you have shown to the Otis Uduebor Sickle Cell Foundation and our flagship event, “5k & Sickle Cell Family Day.” And it is with sorrow that we announce that we will be canceling the event this year, which was originally scheduled for September 9, 2017 at Bachman Lake in Dallas, Texas.
From our very first Sickle Cell Family Day picnic in Kiest Park to our largest attended 5K Run/Walk at Bachman Lake in 2016 (garnering over 600 attendees), it has always been about our sickle cell warriors and their families! You are and continue to be our inspiration!
Following discussions amongst the Board of Directors (and close consultation with some of our most committed partners), it was determined that more time and resources should be dedicated to this event and our organization as we enter the next chapter of its existence. Over the next year, we plan to focus on recruiting, reinvesting and rebuilding to better serve the sickle cell community for many generations to come.
As we move forward, we want to hear from you – our extended sickle cell family – and invite you to share your favorite “5k & Sickle Cell Family Day” photos and memories on our page. If you would like to take a more proactive role in the Foundation or on the planning committee for the next “5K & Sickle Cell Family Day,” please drop us a note at [email protected].
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to, again, apologize for the cancellation. But know this, the best is yet to come! We intend to make the next “5k & Sickle Cell Family Day” even more remarkable so I hope you can join us then!
Indebted to God’s grace,
Cynthia Uduebor Washington
