FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Structure Fire – 16 Grassland Way, Roundup, MT
Date: 1/28/2026
Time: 11:42 PM (2342 hours)
Last night at approximately 11:42 PM, the Roundup Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 16 Grassland Way. Responding agencies also included Bull Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, Musselshell County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), Musselshell County Ambulance, and Musselshell County DES.
Upon arrival of Musselshell County Sheriff’s Office personnel, a propane tank at the residence ruptured, resulting in a large fireball. When fire crews arrived on scene, the structure was fully involved with significant structural collapse.
Firefighters initiated an exterior defensive fire attack and suppressed a small wildland fire that had ignited nearby. After the initial knockdown, a rural water shuttle operation was established to support continued fire suppression efforts.
The property owner was not home at the time of the incident and has been out of state for several days. He has been contacted and is safe.
Fire crews will continue to monitor the scene. Due to unsafe structural conditions, crews are unable to enter the building. Hot embers remain within the foundation and are expected to produce smoke for the next several days. Crews will continue to check the area for embers to reduce the chance of rekindle.
A fire investigation has been initiated; however, due to the extent of the damage, determining the cause will take several days.
We would like to thank the individuals who reported the fire and all responding agencies for their quick action and coordinated response.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
