This weekend, several Round Rock firefighters and their families joined others in New York City to remember the men and women who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, twenty-five years ago.

On that day, FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller reached the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel and found it closed to traffic. He strapped on 60 pounds of firefighting gear and continued on foot toward the World Trade Center. He lost his life that day.

The annual Tunnel to Towers 5K honors his final footsteps and remembers the 343 FDNY firefighters and the thousands of others killed on 9/11.

In the photo they shared with us this morning, our firefighters and their families wore the Round Rock Fire Foundation logo over on the front of their shirts, close to their heats. Seeing it there means so much to us. Supporting these firefighters and their families is why this foundation exists, and we are honored they brought us with them on a day of remembrance.

Thank you for representing the Round Rock Fire Foundation. We are proud to support you from home and grateful you shared this moment with us.

Photo and T-shirt credit goes to Firefighter Kevin Vega.

This is our why.

Before we talk about pickleball, competition, food, prizes, or everything planned for October 10, we want you to know why the Blazing Paddles Pickleball Tournament exists.

The Round Rock Fire Foundation was created to support Round Rock firefighters and their families.

Our work begins with the people behind the uniform. We support wellness, families, connection, and critical resources during the moments when help is needed most, from the beginning of a firefighter’s career through retirement.

And none of that happens without community.

That is what the Blazing Paddles Pickleball Tournament is for.

This is our why. And we’d love for you to be part of it.
