Tonkawa Bassmasters

Tonkawa Bassmasters Tonkawa Bass Club is a bass fishing club based in Round Rock, Texas. We welcome anyone with an interest in bass fishing.

Boaters and Non boaters are both welcome. Tonkawa comes from, "Tonkaweya" meaning "they all stay together." The Tonkawa tribes of Central Texas made their homes along many of the lakes and streams in the area. The Tonkawa tribe believed in hunting and gathering for their food and thrived off of fish, crawfish, clams, mussels, and prawns in the local lakes and streams. Thus, the Tonkawa Tribe was acclaimed to being excellent fisherman!

20 club members turned out for our first tourney of the year at chilly Lake LBJ. It turned out that 19 of us were fishing for 2nd place after Paul Migas delivered a beat down with an impressive 20.55 pound sack which included the big bass of 6.54 pounds! Paul lapped the field finishing nearly 8 pounds ahead of 2nd place. Congratulations Paul!

Congratulations to club member Jeremiah Wafford for cashing in a big payday this past weekend at the Big Bass Tournament on LBJ. Jeremiah’s 8.38 pound tank won overall big bass plus hourly payments to bring home a big boost to the checking account.

Way to go Jeremiah! Drinks on you this month?

Congratulations to Chris Collier for taking the win today on Lake Marble Falls with an impressive 19.11 lb sack! Chris also had big bass with a 4.93 pounder and had 2 others almost as large.

This followed his win on Belton last month. Chris is on a roll as we look forward to our two day tourney on Sam Rayburn in November.

Congratulations also to Joe Taccetta for taking second place and boosting his lead for Angler of the Year to 9 points. He will be tough to catch with just two tourneys remaining.

Well, we had to make a game time audible and change lakes to Bastrop due to a triathlon on Decker. So everyone came in without prefishing. That didn't seem to matter because some crazy numbers of fish were caught. When the day was done, it came down to a question of who could come up with a few bigger bites.

Abel Gonzalez probably sore-lipped half the fish in the lake with his old faithful A rig and put together an outstanding weight of 15.99 lbs. Stephan Smith had a great day and made his first appearance in the money with 14.36 lbs followed by Joe Taccetta in 3rd with 14.02. Congratulations guys!

It was a close race for the top 3 team spots with Joe and Abel taking the win with 30.01 lbs. The teams of Migas/Nash and Smith/Ruiz were close behind with 27.90 and 27.39 lbs respectively.

Word is that Darryl Hanson was sweating bullets all day hoping his Inks Lake sharelunker would hold up for big bass of the year. As it turns out, it's still the fish to beat as Will Nash recorded the big bass of the day at 20".

Our next tourney will be May 4-5 on Fayette. Expect much larger weights and a lot of fun!

After tough tournaments in December and January it was game on yesterday on Fayette! We lucked out with the weather yesterday and got in a full day of fishing. Good turnout with 9 boats! It was almost like a 2 day tourney since a lot of guys rented cabins at the park and made a weekend out of it. Fun times, good food at Jay Deez in La Grange, and of course good fishing!

The Fayette fish were the fattest we've ever seen. Some of the larger fish actually weighed a pound or more over their paper weights. Every fish had huge girth and they fought like hell. There were a lot of break-offs in the timber and on rocks.

Fish were caught a lot of different ways and it will be very interesting to hear the details at our next meeting.

When all was said and done, Joe Taccetta put a beatdown on the fish and the field with a 22.94 lb sack that probably would have topped 26 lbs if we had used scale weights. Luis Ruiz had a personal best day on Fayette to give Joe a run for his money coming in with 21.14 lbs. Congratulations Joe and Luis!

Joe's partner Will Nash chipped in 16.15 lbs from the back of the boat to help them take first place team with 39.09 lbs. Paul Migas and Luis took second with 38.71 followed by Chris Clements and Cash Houston with 32.77.

Big bass honors went to Brody Wafford with a 22.5" tank. Word is he broke off an even bigger one at the boat!

Our next tourney will be a buddy tourney on Inks March 10.
