Entries for the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest and 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contest are due March 31, which is only three weeks away!

Get the word out to local students working on their masterpieces: time is running out and they don’t want to miss the deadline for entries. If you are in touch with a high school art teacher or art studio for teens, this is a good time to send an emailed reminder they can pass along to students.

It is 8pm the 23rd of February again. It is more than amazing that it is 35 years after The Storm.

On this day in US Armor and Cavalry History:
The Desert Storm (officially designated "Operation Desert Saber") ground offensive begans at 8 p.m. EST the 23rd of February or 4 a.m. 24 February 1991 Saudi Arabian time and President Bush authorized General Norman Schwarzkopf to “use all forces available, including ground forces", to expel the Iraqi army from Kuwait.

Defense Secretary Dick Cheney put an immediate halt to all news briefings on the war and at 10:02 p.m. EST, President Bush told the nation: “The liberation of Kuwait has entered the final phase.”

U.S. officials said Iraqi soldiers are seen rounding up Kuwaitis to torture and execute. At least 200 oil wells and oil facilities are destroyed in Kuwait by Iraqi soldiers fleeing as the Allied Armies cross the borders.

COL (Ret.) William Harold Bohannon, known as “Bo,” was born on July 14, 1938, in Alabama, and passed away on January 31, 2026, at the age of 87. He was a longtime resident of Killeen, Texas.

Bo proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Colonel after a distinguished career marked by dedication, leadership, and integrity. A humble Green Beret, Bo served multiple tours in Vietnam and Thailand. He completed more than 25 years of military service, earning numerous awards and distinctions, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Expert Infantryman Badge, among many others. His service reflected a lifelong commitment to duty and to the soldiers he led and served alongside.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
