It is with profound sadness that your Round Rock Firefighters announce the passing of one of our brothers. Driver Zach French passed away the morning of Saturday May 30th, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Zach, or “Frenchie”, as we all lovingly called him, served the citizens of Round Rock for nearly 20 years. He was an amazing friend, mentor, firefighter, and most importantly, father.

While we are still hurting and searching for answers, we must remember to keep Zach’s family in our prayers. We are also asking for prayers for his friends and coworkers who are all in need of them at this time. Please, check in on those you love and care for.

All lanes of IH-35 Northbound at Palm Valley Blvd are currently closed for an incident. Traffic is being diverted onto the shoulder. Please use caution in the area as traffic has backed up and there will be congestion on 35 and the nearby roads for a while. Stay safe Round Rock!

Your Round Rock Firefighters continue to honor the legacy of Officer Charles Whites. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

For nearly two decades, Officer Charles M. Whites, Jr. answered the call.

On February 25, 2018, he was critically injured after being struck by an impaired driver while directing traffic and later passed away on April 27.

Today, we pause to remember him, his service, and the impact he continues to have on this department and those who carry on the job.

We will never forget.

When you call 911, nothing else matters but how fast help gets to you and what happens when it does.

That is what this comes down to.

Firefighters don’t operate on opinions. We operate on real calls, real data, and national standards built around saving lives. Those standards are clear. The goal is for the first arriving unit to arrive in about 4 minutes and a full, effective response in about 8 minutes. That is the standard set by the National Fire Protection Association. Consistency is what gives people the best chance when seconds matter.

As Round Rock continues to grow, maintaining those response times takes a clear plan and a defined level of service that is there every time, for every neighborhood, without question.

Prop B puts that foundation in place. It sets a clear standard for fire protection, creates accountability, and ensures transparency in what you can expect when you call 911.

Firefighters are the subject matter experts in emergency response. Our priority has always been the safety of the families and businesses we serve.

This is not about politics. This is about making sure the right level of response is there when you need it most.

Because when seconds matter, you deserve to know help is on the way.

• Emergency Services District funding 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 $𝟓 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 and continues to grow, yet it is not currently directed toward fire protection.
• 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 $𝟏𝟕𝟏 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 in economic development funds can be used for public safety infrastructure
• 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 $𝟐𝟓 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 in the General Self Finance Construction Fund are available for fire apparatus and critical needs
• Fund balances are sitting 𝟕𝟐.𝟕% 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐬

With future growth comes a critical need to invest in the safety of our families, small businesses, and community.
But don’t let anyone tell you the resources aren’t there.
