Meetinghouse Restoration – Week 7 Update: This week was a VERY EXCITING WEEK at the Meetinghouse – LOTS of progress was made!! The blue v***r barrier went down and made the Meetinghouse look like we might be adding a swimming pool! With the v***r barrier installed, our amazing contractors got to work on placing the beams. Each beam is made up of 7 boards bolted together in a wave like pattern. The beams rest on the cement tubes and are secured to the foundation with large metal brackets. With the beams in place, the contractors were able to install the joists which go perpendicular to the beams and are secured by joist hangers. As our contractor, Tom, said, the flooring will be on a very secure base! The subfloor was starting to be installed on Friday! Can’t wait to see what Week 8 brings! Meetinghouse Restoration - Week 6 Update: This was a bit of a quieter week at the Meetinghouse with a couple of our contractors taking a few days to enjoy time with visiting family and much deserved vacation time! The gaps in the sills were sealed. The v***r barrier and all the wood for the joists arrived and is ready to go for next week. Tom indicated they expect to make great progress on the joists next week. Follow along as we restore this beautiful 1853 building in the heart of Round Pond Village

Another great Helping Hands Ice Cream Social! Many hands make light work. It was great how many people helped in one way or another. Thank you to The Granite Hall who order everything for us and Round Pond Green for hosting the event on their lawn. Thank you to everyone who helped with set-up, serving, clean-up, lending equipment, and just coming and adding to the fun! We served over 100 sundaes this year! People hung around for the music and bubbles and corn hole and just catching up with their neighbors. The residents of The Green certainly enjoyed the event. That's what we wanted.

Thanks to everyone who sent messages to the weather gods. We really lucked out!

The funky ice cream cone hats, balloons, the bubble machines, the corn hole set, the dogs wandering around, the cheerful attitude of the servers all helped make this day a success!

Meetinghouse Restoration - Week 5 Update: This week was all about grading the dirt floor of the Meetinghouse basement and the pouring of a cement floor to level out low spots for the moisture barrier installation. Our contractors were literally knee deep in cement as they smoothed the material insuring the right grade of the of the floor. Once the floor was poured, it was a waiting game for the cement to cure. Next step will be the laying of the v***r barrier. New floors on the main level are not far behind. Follow along as we restore this beautiful 1853 building in the heart of Round Pond Village!

Week 4 Construction Update: Our contractors were able to complete all the sill work this week - finishing the sills on the front of the building. With the sill work complete, our contractors removed some of the large stones that held up the old floor. The extremely heavy stones were pulled out of the building and will eventually be used as part of the landscaping. In addition, the contractors have dug the holes and installed the sonotubes which are 2 feet in diameter and will be filled with concrete. These concrete filled tubes will be what holds up the new floors. The contractors have also repointed areas of the foundation. It will be exciting to see what next week brings! This post is going be a combination of amazing photos from weeks 1 & 2 and a Week 3 Restoration Update. Today, we received photos we had to share of the things our contractors found during the demo phase in weeks 1 & 2. If we ever wondered why we are undertaking this restoration of the underpinnings of the building - wonder no longer! The pictures speak a thousand words.

Week 3 Restoration Update: Our contractors continued to make progress on replacing the sills. This week they focused on the sills on the left-hand side of the building (when standing looking at the front door) and sills at the front of the building. While we were aware of some sill rot and the expectation that there would most likely be more once the contractors started, we did not expect to have to replace every sill in the building. While this raises the cost of the restoration, it feels so good to have the building on solid footing once again! We can't wait to see what week 4 will bring. We hope you will follow along as we restore this beautiful 1853 building in Round Pond Village.
