Operation At Ease takes dogs from shelters, pairs them with deserving veterans and first responders and provides a free guided training program for post-traumatic stress and mobility service dogs. In addition to our service dog training programs, we offer resources such as free therapy dog support, ensuring long-lasting assistance for both our country and community heroes.

This is one of those stories that gets you right in the feels.

Frankie Mae. This young lady was let down by humans' time and time again. Adopted, returned, adopted, returned, rinse and repeat. Project Paws never gave up her, taking her back time and time again. Lora knew this black, tossed around dog had a bigger purpose.

She was right.

Last Friday Allison and I drove up to Washington Correctional Facility in Comstock NY and picked this girl up to begin her training as a hearing dog. This fall she will move to Fort Leavenworth Kansas and alert a retired Army veteran when people approach, call his name, or a fire alarm is going off.

This black dog, unwanted by so many, will change the life of one veteran and his wife. Offering them a level of independence they haven't had in a long time.

Any donation is appreciated to help get this girl home. Last stop, Kansas.

Oops we did it again 🫣

Happy to report that sweet Hera, from Out of the Pits, Inc., is no longer sitting in foster care wondering when she will have a family of her own. Last night she went home with her veteran Chad.

Chad checks all the boxes at OAE. Navy veteran, law enforcement, corrections, and now a probation officer we are grateful to be able to support someone who has dedicated their life to country and community.

Handlers were asked to put their dogs in a stay, call them, go back to the mat they were sitting on, walk past their dog, call them again, and repeat.

This exercise demonstrates great self control and come when called and stay with distractions and moment.

Today we officially welcome Nick and SDIT Apollo (formally Theo) to the OAE family!

We are so grateful for the love and support of our friends from Out of the Pits, Inc. who helped us bring these two young men together. Last night Nick went to sleep with the unconditional love of a dog, and Apollo lay his head knowing he was finally at home. Here's to the many adventures they will have together.

📣 Good Dog Alert!

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you our latest and greatest group of Good Dogs!

Congratulations to the recent graduates of our Beginner Class!

Our Beginner Class (or adolescent dog support group as I like to call it) focuses on all the foundation skills to be a good dog! From loose leash walking, to stay, and come when called this class helps build relationships, gain focus, and bring awareness to what you need to work on next. From here this class can move on to Intermediate Class, or continue perfecting walking with Loose Leash Legends or make their summer experience better with Campfire Canine

No matter what they do next, they will do it knowing that they not only trained their dog, but they were able to help another dog leave the shelter or a rescue to go home with a veteran or first responder for service dog work. All the money from our public classes supports our shelter to service dog program!

So a big CONGRATULATIONS 🥳to these beginners no more!

This has to be one of the most favorite tasks. So simple and checks all the boxes.

SDIT Xeno is demonstrating deep pressure, grounding, and buffering all in one easy move. Xeno picked this up quickly which speaks to the trusting relationship he has with his firefighter. Most dogs do not like people standing over them like this and we have to work to desensitize the behavior.
