The burglar who has been breaking into cars in South Gulf Cove has been caught. My hope is that it is the same individual who was breaking into cars here in Rotonda, as I have not heard of any break-ins lately. We remain committed to keeping our community safe and encourage everyone to continue staying vigilant and locking your vehicles.

Stolen Vehicle: 1 While out of town caller had a friend watching the home. They left the vehicle keys on the counter. A friend of the person
watching the home somehow got the keys and got into an accident out of county.
Reckless Driver:
Fraud: 2 (1) The victim advised she was contacted via phone by her son, who lives in Indiana, regarding her other son, who is
currently in a county jail in Indiana. ###XX advised he was contacted by a Lieutenant from a police department in Indiana
regarding her son and entering him into a program for rehabilitation.
The victim then called the Lieutenant directly, who then described a rehabilitation program that ###XX can enter into to be
released from jail and have his charges dropped. The Lieutenant advised the victim there was a $1,500 program fee and then
###XX bond would be an additional $2,000. The victim was advised to go to her nearest CVS store and purchase "barcodes"
from the customer service desk. The victim then purchased several barcodes and texted photos of them to the Lieutenant. The
Lieutenant advised the victim it would take several hours to process the transaction and ###XX to be released from jail. The
victim advised she has Life360 on ###### phone and noticed in the afternoon of 7/24/2026 that ###### location had not
moved from the jail. She then called the department where the Lieutenant claimed to be from and was advised a Lieutenant by
that name does not work there and she has been scammed, prompting her to call the Sheriff's Office. Information No Law
enforcement agency will call you asking for money. If this were ever to happen to you hang-up and call that agency direct.

Trespass: 2 The caller noticed on his camera that a person was sitting under a tree with a large trash can. The Deputy contacted the
person he works with the landscaper.

Information: 9 (1) CALLER REF TO A SUBJ THAT CALLED HER CLAIMING TO BE FROM CCSO. THEY TOLD HER SHE NEEDED
$50,000 IN ORDER TO HAVE THE WARRANT CANCELLED. SHE HASN'T GIVEN ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION. (2) we had 3
total calls for juveniles riding E-Bikes and doing wheeles while driving at vehicles. (3)CALLER told me last week he yelled at
###XX for traveling along the roadway at a perceived speed exceeding the 35 MPH posted speed. CAller told me the argument
was mostly verbal, Caller once again on 08/05/26 he confronted ###XX again about speeding and this time the argument
escalated slightly.
###XX exited his vehicle the verbal argument began causing things to escalate. ###X lifted his shirt upwards with both hands
exposing what is believed to be a holstered firearm in his band. No statements of any threats or if the firearm would be used but
just felt seeing it in his waistband was enough. Caller then got into his vehicle drove to the front of the residence where ###X's
vehicle was parked, captured photos of the license plate / SUV, and returned home before calling CCSO.
Based on the information provided by Caller no crime has been committed as no direct statements or gestures were made as to
the fi****ms purpose. Caller was also informed because he proceeded to go to ###X's location after seeing what was believed
to be a firearm in his waistband, he has dispelled any concerns or fear for his safety. area.

School has started.

Cameras are up and running at several school speed zones around the area. If a vehicle is detected exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 mph, the registered owner will receive a notice of violation with a fine of $100 approximately three days after the violation occurred. That means, if you are driving 31 mph in a 20-mph school zone, you will be cited. Violations will be recorded by the camera system.
There is a check on the system: Before any citation is issued, a law enforcement officer or traffic infraction enforcement officer will review the violation.
What happens if you receive a violation notice? You have three options:

■ Pay the fine.

■ Submit an affidavit explaining an exception to liability under Florida State Statute 316.1896(8). (You can Google that.)

■ Request a hearing.

Cameras have been installed in school speed zones of nine Charlotte County schools, so far:

■ Lemon Bay High School, 2201 Placida Road, Englewood

■ Port Charlotte High School, 18200 Cochran Ave.

■ Port Charlotte Middle School, 23000 Midway Blvd.

■ L.A. Ainger Middle School, 245 Cougar Way, Rotonda West More SPEED

B2 School-zone speed-enforcement cameras are installed

They will be active 30 minutes before arriving at a regularly scheduled breakfast program to 30 minutes after the start of the school day and 30 minutes before and after school ends. Times will be posted in each school zone, specific to that school’s schedule.
