A BIG thank you to all the PreK-4th grade students who came to visit us at the Rothsay Fire Hall last week during Fire Safety Week!

We had a great time having them check out the fire trucks and learn about fire & charging safety.

Thank you to the teachers for making the walk over! We love sharing our knowledge with our future little firefighters!

Here are a few pics from all the fun!

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly.

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.

Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire.

For 20 years, Brian Marquardt has been a dedicated member of the Rothsay Fire & Rescue Department, giving his time to serve, protect, and help others in our community and surrounding areas.

Now, Brian is facing a fight of his own as he battles colon cancer, and his fellow firefighters are ready to stand beside him.

The Rothsay Volleyball team is holding a fundraiser for Brian and his family to help ease some of the burden during this difficult time. Brian has spent two decades answering the call for others — now it’s our turn to answer the call for him. 💙

Please come out on Monday Oct 19th, show your support, and help us rally around a firefighter, friend, and longtime member of our community. Games start at 5pm at the Rothsay School. All proceeds from shirts, donations and game night activities will be presented to Brian.

Order your shirts or donate here: https://vballcausenight26.itemorder.com/shop/home/
💙 Order deadline: Wednesday, October 7th
🔥 Once a firefighter, always family.
💙 Pulling for Brian!

🚑 Ever wonder why an ambulance might load a patient, close the doors… and then just sit there?

Chances are, we’re not just sitting there.

Once a patient is inside the ambulance, the crew has an entire mobile emergency room at their fingertips—cardiac monitors, medications, IV supplies, airway equipment, and much more.

Sometimes, before we ever put the ambulance in drive, we need a few minutes to:

🩺 Assess the patient
❤️ Check vital signs or run an EKG
💉 Start an IV or give medications
🫁 Manage breathing or other immediate concerns
🏥 Determine the best hospital for that patient

That last one is important.

Not every hospital provides the same level of care for every emergency. A stroke, major trauma, or cardiac emergency may require a specific destination—and what we find during our assessment can completely change where we go.

Could we do some of this while driving?Absolutely.

But some things are a whole lot easier—and safer—when we aren't bouncing down the road. 😂

So, the next time you see an ambulance sitting in front of a house after the patient has been loaded, remember:

We’re not wasting time. We’re using it. 🚑💙

The crew may already be assessing, treating, and making critical decisions before the wheels ever start moving.

💭 What’s something you’ve always wondered about what happens inside an ambulance?
