The next significant round of rain showers and thunderstorms is forecast to move east across the region later this afternoon and tonight into early Wednesday morning. Heavy rainfall on already wet soils may lead to flash flooding.

Heads up folks...severe weather possibilities for this afternoon and evening for much of West Central Texas, especially areas south of I-20. We are expecting some hit and miss storms this morning, but the main activity arrives for the afternoon and evening as a line of strong/severe storms rolls across the area. Right now we expect the storms to reach San Angelo/Sweetwater/Ozona by 1-4 PM, Abilene/Eldorado/Sonora 3-6 PM, and Coleman/Brady/Brownwood/Mason/Junction by 5-9 PM.

This line of storms will have pockets of big storms in it, with large hail of golf ball to baseball size the main concern along with damaging winds. There is a real tornado threat with these storms as well, especially for areas around Ozona, Eldorado, Sonora, and the southwest Concho Valley.

The line will be moving fairly quickly as it moves across the area, but heavy rainfall is still going to be a concern. Areas that have received heavy rainfall the last 3-5 days can't take much more before flash flooding will occur. Fully expect the creeks, streams, and draws to be running hard and flood many low water crossings, city streets, and other low lying areas as the line moves through.

We will try to keep you updated as we head through the rest of the morning and see if anything changes.

⚠️ Just because we got rain doesn’t mean the fire danger is gone. ⚠️

While the recent rain was appreciated, our ground conditions were extremely dry and much of the moisture was quickly absorbed. Vegetation can still ignite easily, especially with heat, wind, and dry fuels remaining across the area.

Please continue to use caution:
🔥 Avoid parking in tall grass
🔥 Don’t toss ci******es from vehicles
🔥 Secure trailer chains
🔥 Use caution with welding or outdoor burning - we are under a burn ban as of 5/11/26

One good rain does not end fire season. Help us keep Fisher County safe.
