“The toughest thing I’ve ever experienced.”
That’s how “America’s Got Talent” judge Howie Mandel describes his mother’s Alzheimer’s journey — yet within the hardship, he has found deep connection, purpose and hope.

In a heartfelt Q&A, Howie shares how his mom, once the strongest and sharpest person he knew, now lives in the late stage of the disease. While she no longer recognizes him, music continues to bridge the space between them.

“My mom used to sing ‘You Are My Sunshine’ to me … now I hold her hand — and I sing to her like she used to sing to me.”

Howie opens up about the realities of caregiving, the fear of watching someone he loves change, and the hope that comes with advancements.

“Every day, we’re getting closer to answers.”

Stories connect us — and move our cause forward. 💜

In the new National Geographic TV documentary “A Road Trip to Remember” actor Chris Hemsworth and his father, Craig, who is living with Alzheimer’s, travel back revisiting key places from their past to explore the powerful science of social connection. It’s a reminder that connection, community and shared history can offer comfort, strength and hope on this journey.

No two experiences with Alzheimer’s are the same, but when we tell our stories, we educate, inspire and raise awareness that brings us all closer to a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.
