Hey guys, just checking in to share a thought that came from a classmate just now. The question asked was " How can OT practitioners protect themselves from emotional burnout when working with clients with terminal illnesses?"
There were lots of great answers about having a proper work/life balance, but one classmate's answer really stood out.
She said, "I would stay prayed up!" She continued to explain that when people go to church to confess their sins to the priest, the priest makes sure to say prayers over themselves beforehand to protect their spirit from the negative energy and negative impact that consistently hearing others' confessions of sins would have on a person. She said she would take the same approach to dealing with clients with terminal illnesses.
So my tip of the day is this:
As we all go through our daily routines of helping others through the hard times in their lives, be sure to protect your own heart and your own spirit by saying a prayer daily that you may pick up and carry the Shield of Faith and keep it up throughout your day no matter the situation.
If we are not consistently turning to God to guide our healing hearts, it will be so easy to get burnt out and put out the flame you carry for helping others!
I love you all and pray everyone is getting through their week with minimal issues. Don't forget we have an open share session this coming Sunday, October 20, 2024 @ 6-7:30 pm. Hope to see yall there! Please let us know in advance if you will need childcare (free).
