Andy Van Dinh (b. Calgary, Alberta) is a New York based artist. He holds a BFA from the University of Calgary and an MFA from Hunter College. Dinh has exhibited internationally, including the Frost Art Museum (Miami) and in Belgrade, Serbia. A 2023 MacDowell Fellow and Alberta Foundation for the Arts grant recipient, he has completed residencies at The Wassaic Project and Anderson Ranch.

"...Through drawing, I construct ambiguous, alternate realms where "self" and "other," "here" and "there," are consolidated. My practice provides a visual context for distant desires, granting a tangible physical presence to the invisible social obstructions that prevent a true "return." These drawings serve as evidence of my corporeal engagement with place—a sensory documentation of my own becoming."
— Andy Van Dinh

Ash Eliza Williams is a painter and interdisciplinary artist exploring new methods of interspecies communication and non-human language. Williams has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver (CO), Hersbruck Museum (Germany), Bronx Museum project space (NY), The New York Hall of Science (NY), and Wasserman Projects in Detroit (MI). Their work has been featured in The Washington Post, Hyperallergic, and the Brooklyn Rail. Ash often works with scientists, including collaborations and research projects at Shoals Marine Laboratory, The Museum of Comparative Zoology, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, and McDonald Observatory.

“When I was a child, I was extremely shy, and I dreamed of being able to communicate through bioluminescence or by quietly passing information through a network of fungal filaments rather than with spoken words. These desires evolved into a fascination with alternative languages and methods of connection, as well as a deep curiosity about the inner lives of creatures. Today, I study the sentience and vocabulary of rocks, beetles, clouds, and other beings. In my studio, paintings and sculptures reach toward each other, blush at each other, antagonize each other, flirt with each other, and sometimes sit, shyly, side by side. My central goal as an artist is to discover alternative, more vibrant ways of being human and connecting with other creatures.”

Museum hours Monday-Friday 10-4, Saturday and Sunday 1-5.

“Babylon 26”, a solo exhibition by Roswell Artist-in-Residence Farnaz Shadravan (RAiR 2025-26).

Opens Friday January 9 at the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art (AMoCA). Artist Talk and reception: 1/9 @ 5:30 - 7:00 PM. Public catered dinner to follow - all events at AMoCA. Exhibition dates: January 9 - February 22, 2026

Farnaz Shadravan was born and raised in Iran. Her introduction to Art was her training in manuscript illumination and Persian miniature painting. After the 1979 revolution in her country she moved to United States. Farnaz has had two completely different styles of art education in America, one traditional realistic oil painting at University of Utah and the other, freestyle conceptual art practice that included different mediums and disciplines at San Francisco Art Institute. As a result of this, her work oscillates between these two realms and has distinct elements from each practice.

Being a part time dentist Farnaz often uses her dental hand piece to carve or engrave found objects. The meditative quality of the act of engraving is clearly transferred to her work.

Having experienced a revolution and a war in her country, her work has become her way of telling her life stories and also the stories of people she met along the way.

In 2002 Farnaz and two of her friends established the first artist run exhibition space in San Francisco - San Francisco Underground Gallery. In 2011 she opened her second artist run exhibition space - Shadravan Studios - in Oakland’s Art Murmur district. Farnaz has art studios in Oakland and in Tehran. She is in the process of establishing a studio in Los Angeles.

Museum hours Monday-Friday 9-4, Saturday and Sunday 1-5.

"My father was an artist and encouraged me to become one, my mother wanted me to choose a more secure profession. That is the reason I ended up in dental school after finishing art school. After years of juggling these two professions, I finally left the financial security of dentistry for art.

A new chapter in my art practice began. Like a human being, a work of art needs to have three elements: Skeleton, skin and pulse. I used wood for the skeleton. Fabric became the skin. Juxtaposing different stitches and colors gave me the pulse. Used materials hold energy of their past experiences, unleashing that energy causes pain but that's a small price to pay when you see the effect."

https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/support-roswell-artist-in-residence-foundation-this-giving-tuesday

The Roswell Artist-in-Residence (RAiR) Foundation comprises our year-long residency program as well as the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art (AMoCA). The RAiR Foundation has supported and helped cultivate the careers of nearly 300 artists so far. Each year, since 1967, six artists have been provided with a house, studio, art-making facilities and a stipend for a period of one year. They’re offered a solo museum exhibition, and we purchase their artwork to hang in the permanent collection at the RAiR Foundation's Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art, where admission is always free.
The residency, founded by Donald B. Anderson (1919-2020), has come to be known as a “Gift of Time.” With your support on Giving Tuesday you’re helping offer this gift to artists from around the world and bolstering our mission— to support artists and enhance the cultural environment of Roswell and southeastern New Mexico by bringing artists of importance to live and work in the tranquility of the high plains. For more info: www.rair.org
