On November 3rd of 2011, I was driving from Highland Meadows to Los Lunas on a desolate stretch of Hwy 6 in New Mexico. As I drove past a portion of the Isleta Reservation, I saw an extremely emaciated horse standing along the fenceline. When I pulled over, I was dumbfounded at the condition of the bay gelding (there is an album in photos). The words that fell from my mouth were "no way. there's j

ust no way" dotted with expletives. I noticed the dried mud on his legs and knew he needed water along with food so I left a small bit of alfalfa that was in the back of my truck and, telling him I would be back, I continued on to Los Lunas which was still a half hour away. When I returned to where I had left him, he was no longer there. I left the water for him and drove along the fenceline looking for him. I finally saw him cresting a small hill heading away from the road. No matter how much I called to him, he did not turn around. Unfortunately, it was the last time I would see him alive. The day after I saw the gelding I called and spoke with an Isleta Ranger about the horse and he told me that someone had dumped him on their property a few weeks prior. They had tried to catch him when they first saw him but he avoided them and, as the reservation encompassed thousands of acres, they had no idea where he had ended up. He was willing to let me on the property but, since it was a Friday, I would have to wait until the following Monday for him to be available. After the phone call, I went back out to try to find the gelding. I would drive along the fenceline with binoculars, call for him, and hope that he would show up. I spent hours waiting for him on Saturday and Sunday. He never drank the water or ate the hay I left him so I could only hope he had found some elsewhere. Come Monday morning, I met the Isleta Ranger at the gate and he let me in with my trailer. My plan was to ride out and find the gelding. As I unloaded my horse, the Isleta Ranger said he would drive the fenceline and see what he could find. Just as I was stepping into the saddle, the Isleta Ranger came back and said riding out was not necessary. He had found the bay gelding laying dead along the trail leading to where I had left him food and water. He gave all he had left trying to reach what could have begun to save him. I spent some time with the gelding and, as I stroked his neck, I apologized for the humans who had let him down. I told him that I was sorry that I could not get to him soon enough and I named him Ranger for his preserverance and for the Isleta Ranger who had tried to help. I told him that he would not die in vain or be forgotten. That I would use his name to help others like him and in that moment, with my hand resting on the body of the little bay gelding, on November 10th 2011, Ranger's Legacy Equine Rescue was created.

I've listed one of my personal trucks for sale on Facebook Marketplace but the link won't work here so I am posting the ad below.

Part of my motivation is to help cover some needed repairs on our one-ton dually, along with other personal expenses. If you know someone who may be looking for a truck, I'd greatly appreciate you sharing this post.

Thank you for supporting both me and the work we do for the horses.

"MUST SELL! HAVE WORK NEEDED ON VEHICLE I USE MORE. 1997 F250 HD 4x4 with a 460 (7.5). White and grey. Everything works including the 4 wheel drive. Has two fuel tanks (the front pump was replaced two years ago). Miles (340,363) are mostly hwy miles til the last 6 years then used around the ranch. It does have a small oil leak just not sure where from. Just had the front seal replaced, a new radiator, and a tune-up. $1800 worth of new tires (including the spare) and an alignment. Replaced the rear leaf springs in 2012, and the water pump in 2017. Comes with an extra, new Starter and new, extra rear tail light. The transmission will need some attention eventually as, after it warms up, it takes a moment to go into reverse. Goes through all forward gears fine. This truck features a heavy-duty, full-floating 10.25-inch Sterling rear axle capable of 8,800 lbs GVWR and a TTB front end. The Interior needs some TLC and the switch for the dual fuel tanks may need to be replaced. Asking $4,000 OBO"

Every time I look at Rudy, I'm reminded how far he's come. He arrived a couple of weeks before Christmas needing help and a fresh start. Months later, he's out in the big pen with Tigger, enjoying life and looking better every day.

The transformation isn't magic—it's the result of good nutrition, consistent care, and time. Watching horses like Rudy recover is one of the most rewarding parts of rescue.

Thank you to everyone who supports Rangers Legacy Equine Rescue and helps give horses like Rudy the chance they deserve.

Jasper is a little over a year old now, and the cats have done an excellent job of keeping him humble.

Sometimes they'll gang up on him if he gets a little too pushy, so he's learned to be cautious around them. Other times, they're perfectly friendly.

This morning, one of the cats walked by while Jasper was lying down, and the look on his face was priceless. You can almost see him thinking, "Are we friends today, or am I about to get smacked?"

Life is full of tough decisions when you live with cats. 😂

I snapped the first photo when I got home from town. The sky was beautiful, the sun was shining, and everything looked calm and peaceful.

By the time I headed out for evening feeding a couple of hours later, Mother Nature had changed her plans. The clouds rolled in, the rain started falling, and I finished chores with wet boots.

Out here, the weather can change in a hurry, but after the dry conditions we've had, I won't complain about a little rain.

The first photo was taken before feeding. The second was taken after. Same evening, completely different view.

Today's trip to town is just about wrapped up, and I wanted to share a quick update.

First, thank you to everyone who donated after this morning's post. Your support helped me purchase bagged feed for the horses, put fuel in the truck, and take care of some much-needed maintenance to keep the truck reliable for future feed runs and rescue needs.

As always, it seems like expenses have a way of piling up all at once. While I'm grateful for the help that came in today, support is still needed to help keep feed, fuel, and other day-to-day rescue expenses covered.

If you would like to help, donations toward feed and general horse care are always appreciated.

Thank you for continuing to stand behind the horses and the work that goes into caring for them every day. Your support truly makes a difference.

Good morning from Rangers Legacy Equine Rescue. ☀️🐴

Before I head into town this morning, I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has helped with the GMC truck and flatbed trailer repair bill last week.

The total bill was $603.77, and thanks to your generosity, $567 has been donated toward that expense. That means we are only $36.77 away from covering the entire repair bill, and I am incredibly grateful for every person who helped make that possible.

As I make today's trip to town, my focus shifts back to the regular needs of the rescue—feed, fuel, and supplies for the horses. Those day-to-day expenses never take a break, and they are what keep everything running here.

If you would like to help, donations toward feed and general horse care would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for continuing to support the horses here at Rangers Legacy Equine Rescue. I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

I finally got a decent photo of our little killdeer baby!

A few days ago, I found this tiny bird sitting in a hoofprint inside one of the horse pens and helped reunite it with Mom and Dad. Since then, I've been seeing the family all over their favorite five-acre corner of our 50-acre property.

This little one can't fly yet, but that doesn't seem to slow it down. Every time I look up, it's somewhere new, keeping up with its parents on those long, skinny legs. ❤️🐦

I think my dogs have decided they're ready to take over feeding chores.

One claimed the driver's seat, the other took the passenger seat, and both looked pretty confident about their qualifications.

Since it's usually just me doing chores around here, it's nice to know I have backup if I ever need a night off.

What do you think—should I let them drive tomorrow? 🐾😂

I thought I'd introduce a couple of the horses that don't get mentioned very often.

These two are my personal horses, not rescue horses, but they're very much a part of daily life here.

The gelding (Red) is a registered 25-year-old half-Arabian, half-Quarter Horse that I've had since 2019. The mare is a 14-year-old registered Quarter Horse that I've had since the day she was born.

They may not be rescues, but they've shared their home with a lot of rescue horses over the years and have been part of this journey right alongside me.

I'd love to hear from everyone—how long have you had your oldest horse or pet?

A quick glimpse of the little killdeer baby that has been hanging around here lately. This little bo**er is getting fast! 😊

I had planned to make a trip into town today, but with thunderstorms in the area and more rain in the forecast, I decided it was better to stay put. We haven't received much rain here yet, but by the time I would have finished errands and headed home several hours later, the chances of heavy rain and flooded arroyos would have been much higher.

Thankfully, my sister picked up some bagged feed for me and met me at the end of my dirt road, so the horses are set for the next several days if the weather decides to get serious.

For now, we're listening to the thunder, watching the clouds, and keeping an eye on this adorable little visitor.

I hope everyone is having a safe and peaceful day.
