We flip a light switch every day and trust it, even if we couldn't explain electricity to save our lives. We can't fully explain God either, but we can know Him. It's easy for prayer to become mostly thank-yous and requests, and both are good. This week's message from Psalm 40 calls us to something we often skip: praising God simply for who He is. The more we stand in awe of Him, the less our worries run the show, and the easier it gets to trust Him.

The world keeps a ledger: what do you bring, what do you cost, are you worth keeping? That is not how Jesus sees his people. In Luke 15:1-7 he leaves the ninety-nine, finds the one, and carries it home rejoicing. Our standing with him rests on his mercy, not on what we bring to the table.

We all know what it feels like to chase a pat on the back, a title, or the approval of the crowd, only to watch that glory fade. In John 1:1-18 we see a glory that never ends: the Word became flesh, and those who receive Him are given the right to become children of God.
