🎶 Music changes lives.

Today I saw the wonderful new musical BASURA at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, and it reminded me all over again why Klaasical Music exists.

BASURA celebrates the power of music, musical instruments, and music education to change the direction of a life. That is exactly what we believe.

Through Klaasical Music, we collect donated instruments, have them repaired and tuned as needed, and place them in the hands of people and communities who want to make music but cannot afford instruments. Right now, we are collecting instruments to send to a filarmonica in Italy, where they will be played, taught, shared, and loved again.

If you have a band or orchestra instrument sitting in a closet, attic, basement, garage, or spare room, please consider donating it next week, July 6–12.

Trumpets, clarinets, flutes, saxophones, trombones, violins, violas, cellos, percussion, and other playable or repairable instruments are all welcome.

As a thank-you, everyone who donates an instrument next week will be entered into a drawing for two tickets to an upcoming performance of BASURA at the Alliance Theatre.

Your donations have now been delivered to a fourth country. In addition to Kenya, The Bahamas, and Honduras, instruments are in the hands of the Filarmonica in this small town in Tuscany, Italy, with more on the way soon. Their structure is beautiful, with children as young as ten, as well as senior citizens. This combination bears fruit beyond the music and it was an honor to watch them practice tonight in their new facility. Congratulations to all! Music changes lives! 🎼🎺🎵❤️

What a terrible waste of resources, and an example of why we have such a sustainability problem as a society, if 70 percent of instruments that are donated to Goodwill go directly into landfills.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, instead, donate them to Klaasical Music and we will find a home for them with an aspiring musician. We handle all repairs and maintenance before passing them on so that the recipient can spend time playing, not fixing! When necessary, we donate all parts that can be salvaged, and recycle or repurpose those that we can’t. This is a better way.

We are desperately looking for some small musical instruments for an upcoming
project and donation by March 15. Flutes, picollos, clarinets, oboes, bassoons, saxaphones, violins, ukuleles, etc. If you know anyone who has any that are taking up space and that could be shared with aspiring musicians who can’t afford them, please, please, please let us know and we will arrange a pickup.
