Now that the legislative session has ended, join us for a 1 hour virtual overview of all the good and bad criminal justice reform bills that passed that will affect Georgians, reflect on key takeaways and discuss what's ahead.

FYI: our partners at Georgia Justice Project successfully passed 3 bills that will improve the process of obtaining an occupational license with a felony, seal First Off***er records and count time served in probation revocation cases. In 2026, the National Incarceration Association marks ten years of work rooted in a simple belief: families of the incarcerated must be at the center of everything we do.

Facing the truth about our justice system is uncomfortable. It's heavy. It's painful. But it is the only way through.
For the families waiting by the phone. For the people behind bars fighting to be seen. For the communities carrying wounds the system helped create, your reality deserves to be faced, not ignored.

The first step toward justice is refusing to look away.

Nearly 5,000 people died in U.S. jails over a single decade, most of them were never convicted of a crime.
Not sentenced. Not found guilty. Just waiting.

According to a Reuters investigation, 4,998 of the 7,571 jail deaths documented between 2008 and 2019 were people who never had their day in court. They died from illness, su***de, and neglect in facilities with little oversight and no enforceable national standards.

This isn’t justice. This is a system failing the most vulnerable people in it and their families pay the price too.
💬 Drop a ❤️ if you believe every person deserves their day in court.

This should be a requirement before they can take office.

Carmen Mejia was finally freed this week after spending 22 years incarcerated for an event that was ultimately determined to be a tragic accident, not a crime. What should have been recognized as a heartbreaking circumstance was instead prosecuted as homicide, costing her decades of freedom and time with her family. After years of review and new expert testimony, the courts have now acknowledged that no crime occurred.

While justice has finally been acknowledged, nothing can restore the 22 years Carmen Mejia was separated from her children, missing birthdays, milestones, and the chance to raise them. The devastation of that loss is something both she and her family will carry for the rest of their lives.

When proving someone guilty becomes more important than discovering the truth, justice fails the very people it is meant to protect.
